scsi_boy, 27 Nov 2008oh yes...forgot to mention that i inserted 8gb memory card ... moreMoto has been "safe" when announcing the specs of its phones...i.e. in reality the phones can support memory card of double the size (except for most phones supporting 2GB, as anything above needs support of SDHC).
My good old A1000 said it supported 128k card, and I put a 256k card and ite worked fine. My old V3x said its supported 512k card, and I put a 1GB card it worked fine.
The possible reason is Moto can't gurantee the performance of the "double sized" memory cards. I.e. cards with higher capacity probably draws more RAM, power, and other things in the phone, which may not match with the phone's ultimate performance.
Back to A1600, is about time to say goodbye for my unit. As I just returned from Taipei I couldn't download the map as promised by Moto HK...where I bought the phone.
So I'm going back to my E6...

oh yes...forgot to mention that i inserted 8gb memory card and it works just fine. I don't know why Motorola advertised it to be limited to 4Gb; it could be when this phone was launched, 8Gb SDHC card was not available.

i just got this phone today from amazon.com. The phone has been fantastic to use. The phone is very small with 2.4 screen size, which is just enough to enjoy using the touch screen. It is running Linux and is guaranteed to be stable with no crashes. Sometimes the menu options could be a little sluggish, but nothing really to hinder your decision of not buying the phone. I see no reason why this phone should only be launhced in China. It is easy to use, rich in features, and yes it may not be iphone intuitive, but after learning how to use it, navigating through menus is just as fast as the iphone. I personally really like the size of it b/c it fits into my pocket perfectly. The iphone is a little to big. It played all my videos using the preinstalled realplayer. The screen is crisp and bright. The only drawback is that you have to "guess" at chaning language from Chinese -> English when you first power on the phone. Not really hard just a nuisance.

vtpot, 24 Nov 2008how come in India GPS is free with this handset?
I didnt u... moreActually I'm curious as to which countries where usage of "GPS" (not to be confused with GPRS or AGPS) is charged?
As I thought as long as the device has a GPS chip, it can receive the signal from satellite free of charge anywhere in the world.

it's just so old. A1200 was a great phone for 2005 but this one is so obsolete for 2008. 3 years, and the only difference is the upgraded camera and GPS? com'on!

100 Moto, 12 Nov 2008I have never owned A1200 due to its relatively low ring vol... moreI'm using this phone for the past three weeks. I have no problem in call reception, the GPS works flawlessly, its totally free in India and the maps are almost too perfect. The battery life is also good not comparable to other nokia phones, but still one can make calls n use gps.The touch screen n handwriting recognition is perfect. All other features are same a A1200, but we have a 3.2mpx camera, which takes awesome pics, comparable to my N73.It has A2Dp so you can use stereo bluetooth, and what more, this is the PDA-Smartphone of the decade..

insomnia, 11 Nov 2008HMM, i just orderd this phone, do you think the A1200 looks... moreI have never owned A1200 due to its relatively low ring volume, which is important in crowded city where I live.
Otherwise, in terms of looks, which is quite subjective, I actually like A1200 a bit more than A1600, as the later is rather, if not a lot, bulkier than A1200.
In the areas where I live, actually A1200 attracted lots of female users...in white, red, and other color.
A1600 has GPS and navigation which A1200 doesn't have. Though I just learned I couldn't get the US map on my A1600, which is what I need.
Shamefully speaking (actually the software company should be at fault), the map in my A1600 made an error for the name of the street I live at....which became the street in one of the most expensive neighborhood in my city. (not that I really mind if they give me a house there!)
