Motorola generaly make great phones, however this A3100 AINT one of them.
This phone could not be a serious contender to the IPHONE, HTC, NOKIA or SAMSUNG high end product.
Given the cost here in Australia, almost similar to the iphone, one look at this attempt, what would you buy??
For a start the screen resolution is dreadfull.
At over 800 bucks Aussie, you would have to be a sandwich short of picnic to buy this thing when very clearly there is better out there.
      Good luck Motorola!!

unclemark, 13 May 2009My iphone can dial any numbers at anytime. I can send photo... moreSorry for being out of the topic, though may I ask exactly how can you send photos from your iphone to anyone? (don't tell me you've to put it as an attachment in an e-mail)

And how long have you been using your iphone? My wife got hers in Aug last year, exhanged one around Oct. (as the phone simply went blank for no reason), and after she downloaded some "official" games from App Store 2 weeks ago, all of the sudden she couldn't dial to anyone except those in the phonebook.

The staff at Apple Service told her she needs to shutdown the phone every once in a while so to ensure all applications are turned off, (Of course she knows how to press the "x" button in normal situation) otherwise the applications may take up much (RAM) memory or something. (and strange for the fact if something goes wrong with the memory, why the phone still memorizes those in the phonebook instead of the dial keypad?)

For the iphone owners I know they've exchanged at least once. Meanwhile, I haven't exchanged any Moto phones I've bought since...over 14 years ago.

My iphone can dial any numbers at anytime. I can send photo's to anyone I want just press the send button. I do not have to send my iphone in for service, but I guess the moto does lol. I have never had to reset my iphone to close apps, simple just close the apps (psst hit the little X) hehe.
Don't worry I have had moto phones and I like them too,Lol

unclemark, 12 May 2009Bought a a3100 and returned it the next day, very disappoin... moreNo offense to iphone, as my wife is using it and she loves it.

For internet, yes I do agree iphone beats the hell out of A3100, which I also own.

Though I don't exactly agree with the other points you made.

Battery life is overall pretty good on my A3100, which uses the same battery as my Q9 (and even the good old E770), which means when I'm out of power, I can easily swap the battery from my other phone. Don't think iphone can ever do that.

Last week my wife's iphone could only dial numbers from the phone book. (which has never been a problem on any of the Moto phones I have used, including "smart" phones like A1000/E6/Q9/A3100, etc...) Just before we took the phone for service, we took a snapshot photo together (on the street).

Oops! Photo might be erased during service! Bluetooth transfer to any of our other phone? Sorry, don't think iphone can do that. How about send the photo via MMS to our own phone numbers? Sorry, don't think iphone can do that!

She had to wait til we got home and used itune to transfer the photo back to the desktop....which meant we missed taking the phone for service...on Sat.

How about taking the phone for service on Sunday? Sorry, iphone service isn't available where I live. (Moto opens from 1100 to 1800 even on Sundays)

Finally, my wife took her iphone back to service, which the staff took a few minutes to restart the phone, and the conclusion / advice was "you need to turn the phone off every once in a while to make sure the applications are turned off"

Oops! I've been using my A3100 since Jan and I don't think I ever turned off my phone, and it works fine.

And yes, I do wish the font size on my A3100 can be enlarged like the iphone, so I can really use my figures to operate everything...instead of using the stylus.

And need I mention about the voice quality of my A3100 which beats the hell out of iphone...as well as most other brands (especially the I?music brand's bar phones) in terms of clarity.

Bought a a3100 and returned it the next day, very disappointed, internets terrible, battery life is poor and for all the features it claims to have, there not that good. Guess I'll stick with my iphone.

This phone can actually hold upto a 32GB Mirco SD card. Looks like one of the best Windows based handsets ever. Nice size, pretty lite and the track ball looks easier to use then the touch screen. Can't wait till its released to Australia to try it.

                            Motorola lover....

For being a "motorola lover" you dont have much knowledge about motorola's phones.

They have several phones that have:
                            - camera
                            - mp3
                            - bluetooth
                            - memory card slot

& all are below 100 bucks....hell, you can get many phones for under 70 bucks with these requirements.

motorola lover, 01 May 2009to all Motorola R & D team... do you ever go to the market... moreMoto is already offering phones with your so called "requirement" for about US$100.

The latest promotion where I live is the U9, which sells for US$90 unlock without any contract.

Meanwhile Moto's A810 is one of the cheapest touchscreen phones around...now being sold for about US$128.

Let's see when will the almighty / i?music brand ever offer a touchscreen phone for under US$200
