            Motorola ATRIX 4G Unboxing
Needless to say that there is a lot at stake when you’ve been given the prestigious title of being “the world’s most powerful smartphone,” but it would seem that the Motorola ATRIX 4G is up for the challenge. Not only is it packing some impressive hardware under the hood, such as its NVIDIA Tegra2 1GHz dual-core processor, but it’s actually the first respectable high-end Android powered device from Motorola that’s gracing AT&T’s so-so lineup. Having the opportunity of quickly checking out the device back at CES, we’re naturally excited about experiencing all that the Motorola ATRIX 4G has to offer.

The handset’s packaging is pretty typical of any other device on AT&T’s lineup – which is prettied up by the usual orange and white colors associated with the carrier. And even though it comes packaged along with the usual crop of accessories, like its microUSB cable and wall charger, we’re enthralled to find a large 1930 mAh battery and microHDMI cable included. The latter of which is definitely more appreciative since it’s very rare to find manufacturers throwing it in with all the usual assortments.

Quickly going over some of its specs, the Motorola ATRIX 4G features a 4” qHD (540 x 960) capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with dual-LED flash, 0.3-megapixel VGA front facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, aGPS, and a nifty finger print scanner. Additionally, it presents to us the latest customized MOTOBLUR experience running on top of Android 2.2 Froyo.

Overlooking its long listing of impressive hardware, the other unique thing about the Motorola ATRIX 4G is the additional functionality it has to offer when it’s combined together with a separate laptop dock or connected to a high definition television set via its HDMI cable. In fact, it would perfectly blend the two product segments together to offer a whole new experience that we have yet to witness before. We’ll surely take it through the usual process, so expect our in-depth review shortly!

Motorola Atrix 4G and Laptop Dock Bundle (AT&T)

              Item Description

The moment you connect your ATRIX 4G and Laptop Dock, you'll realize that the smartphone revolution is upon us. With the NVIDIA Tegra processor, the ATRIX 4G is powerful enough to serve as the processing guts to an entire laptop device. Once the ATRIX is docked, the laptop powers up instantaneously with an all-new Webtop Operating System developed by Motorola exclusively for the ATRIX 4G. Need to go mobile? Simply remove the ATRIX from the Laptop Dock, and continue writing e-mail or surfing the web seamlessly. Expecting an important call? You can answer your phone right from Webtop and use the included Laptop Dock speakerphone, or better yet, connect your Laptop Dock and ATRIX to a Bluetooth headset (sold separately).

The MOTOROLA ATRIX 4G is a powerful dual-core smartphone with an innovative laptop dock that marries a touch-type keyboard with total internet connectedness at 4G speeds. Sporting both the near-latest version of Android and an all-new operating system called "Webtop" developed by Motorola exclusively for the Atrix 4G, the smartphone has just become infinitely more usable. Use the Atrix 4G's 4-inch capacitive glass "qHD" display for normal smartphone usage like making calls and sending text messages, and when you need to do some serious typing or web-browsing, simply dock the handset onto the back of the passive laptop dock, and the Webtop OS will instantly spring to life. Looking for a more desktop-like experience? Connect the Atrix 4G to the HD Multimedia Dock, connect a wireless keyboard and mouse, and interact with the Webtop OS via your HDMI-capable television. With Android version 2.2 Froyo, the Atrix 4G also excels in the business world with an integrated fingerprint scanner for an added layer of security, remote data wiping, and excellent levels of power and performance thanks to the NVIDIA Tegra dual core processor and 1GB of RAM.

The Artrix 4G has already gained recognition for its outstanding innovation winning both CNET and Engadget's awards for Best Smartphone at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Read more about the distinction and some important early reviews of this handset in our In The News tab. I love the phone.... minus battery life. unfortunatly, mine lasts 5.5 hours on standby and sending and receiving a total of 20 text messages in that time. I will be swapping out for a new one to see if it is just mine. But, back to the goodies:

-BLAZING FAST!! put launcher pro on and is AMAZING!
-very clear voice calls and so far no negatives for reception.
-screen is merely average (but this is from me who is used to a samsung captivate with the crazy good super AMOLED screen)
-The touchscreen is decent, the spacebar at the bottom of the screen is not quite as sensitive as it should be and the Android keyboard is not an option.
-There is no issue with movies on the phone. AVI tends to work the best.
-The icons arent that great compared to the more polished look of Samsung or LG
-The phone is very thin and tiny
-The bottom right of the phone as you look at the front gets very warm (could again just be mine) due to the processor being located under that area
-There are quite a few new areas in the settings and such on the 2.2 vs 2.1 that are prety neat but also things are moved around a bit. going from 2.1 to the 2.2 will take a couple times of going through it to get used to it.
-The fingerprint reader is a GREAT idea, but every now and then will take up to 5 swipes to recognize or sometimes will not and screen will just shut off durring swipe making you put in your pin code. Not bad, but irritating at times.
                  -The HDMI out is AMAZING!!
-Wish the foreward facing camera was higher quality.
-Camera Flash is a great addition vs the Captivate

                  more to come of course!

Srinivas, 23 Feb 2011I have a very basic question. Will this phone supports India... moreLook on the 3g frequency on the specs. Then check your service provider's 3g frequency. If the provider's frequency matches the frquency of the phone, then it is compatible.

Finally got my yesterday. Played with the phone overnight and I can say it's a great device. Incredible fast and it's screen very bright as well I even think it's better than Captivate's one. But (there are always butsss) ATT suck it again big time. Way too much garbage installed, only a few languages available. and more more more
