Motorola debuts RAZR2 V8 Luxury edition

The Motorola RAZR2 sports a new outfit for this holiday season, with a limited series of handsets coming with a gold-plated body and soft snake-skin-like back. The new bling-bling style would most definitely magnetize fashionistas.

The Motorola RAZR2 V8 Luxury Edition has the same functionality as the original Moto RAZR2 V8 (expect our review next week) but just as a spoiler, we would mention the slim 12.05 mm body and the main 2.2" QVGA TFT display, as well as the external 2" QVGA TFT display with touch sensitive keys. A 2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth and up to 2GB of integrated memory complete the set of features. Unfortunately, there is no 3G or HSDPA support, nor memory card slot.

The device has some stunning accessories though, such as the Motorola H680 Bluetooth headset with 18 carat gold-plated accents and a matching patent leather carrying case.

The Motorola RAZR2 V8 Luxury Edition is expected to start shipping just before the holiday shopping, but there is no pricing information yet.

Motorola announced a handful of budget handsets, too. The new models are W156/W160, W175/W180, W206/W213, and W377. The handsets are presented in couples - every couple consists of two identical models, each with dual-band support. The first one in every pair is the American model with 850/1900 MHz support, while the second is compatible with the 900/1800 MHz band.

The W160, W180, W213 and W377 (those are the European ones) feature FM radio but, strangely enough, headphones are not included in the package. However, the situation is remedied by the presence of a standard 2.5 mm audio jack. Additionally, all of the new handsets, except for the W377, will feature Motorola’s proprietary CrystalTalk technology, which automatically adjusts audio to ensure clear calls even in noisy environments.

The Motorola W377 is a tri-band clamshell with an integrated VGA camera and 10MB of built-in memory, MP3 support, Bluetooth, and USB port. It will be available in several colors (one of which pink!) and will hit the shelves before Christmas.

The Motorola W206/W213 duo features a 65K color display, MP3 ringtones support, 1MB of internal memory and 2.5 mm audio jack – all that packed into a compact body with a weight of only 78 g. The Motorola W206/W213 will be available in China, Taiwan and South Africa this very month.

The Motorola W156/W160 couple has a monochrome screen and 20 KB of integrated memory. There is no support for MP3, but being targeted at developing markets, the interface is available in 7 African languages. The Motorola W156/160 is expected to be available as soon as this month.

The Motorola W175/W180 duet is only a slightly updated version of the W156/W160, as it comes with a 65K color TFT display and larger memory capacity of 70KB. MP3 ringtones are again not an option. The Motorola W175/W180 will be available in October 2007, too.
