Both great and disappointing at the same time. Really nice as a multimedia machine, but disappointing as a PDA.
Nice:
-finish, feel in hand
-phone is integrated well with media player
-phone is expandable with standard SD cards
-SMS/MMS interface is slick, functional
-records phone calls!!! (ask permission first. i'm a writer who interviews people and this is incredibly helpful for me)
-works as a USB storage device for PC files
-handwriting recognition! (i'm a diehard for this)
-tip for t-mobile customers in US: i got MMS working by applying the motorola v600 profiles for gprs and mms through the t-mobile 'configurator' website.
Disappointing:
- can only view word, excel, pdf documents: CAN'T EDIT THEM
- not a sophisticated PDA
- calendar and phone book not as beautifully functional as palm's
- few if any applications available beyond what comes with the phone
- not a platform many developers are working on
- not quite as simple to navigate as palm devices
If you need a superfunctional PDA with lots of applications, I'd say a treo is the way to go. But if you want something that's more like a multifunction iPod/media center with a basic PDA and phone attached, this could be satisfying.
Since it's built on Linux, also there are opportunities for a lot of tweaking, though it sounds like motorola isn't being very helpful (see http://motorolafans.com ). I'm going to stick with this, I hope, until "Access Linux" devices come out with both Linux and legacy Palm support.

This phone is simply awsome. Its feature package is amazing. Here are some that no other phones have:
1. True voice recognition for your addressbook - no clumsy 'voice dial' thingie - just enter a name in addressbook and it's available for voice recognition.
2. Text-to-speech - you can tell your phone to check your messages (via voice recognition) and it can read your messages to you.
3. RealPlayer can play audio and video - with up to 2GB memory you can use your e680i as a portable audio player.
4. Standard SD card slot - if you have another device that uses SD cards it's very convenient to be able to take the card out of one device and put it in the other such as your laptop, camera or printer.
5. FM radio - if you feel bored by your own music on your SD card switch to playing radio or listen to news
6. Getting a call while listening to music on your headphones? The e680i tells you, then you click a button near the mic on the headphone, answer the call, click the button again to go back ex

Get A Thinner Phone,
It's a multimedia phone, so if you max out & try out all the features & go crazy everytime, no matter what kind of space-age batt you use, you're goin to drain it. That is a no brainer.
The cam is a bit bad, I admit, it is only VGA, but for a phone with so much features packed in, easily forgettable. It was released early 2005, so planning for this phone probably started in 2003, so VGA is still acceptable.
The touchscreen works fine for me. I can makes calls & navigate around with my thumb alone. SMS is a bother though, as the keyboard letters are pretty small. It's ok when in normal conditions, but hard to do when in a moving vehicle, say bus or car.
Lastly, use the lock-switch! It is there for a reason, man. Blaming the phone for making calls, because you didnt enable the lock is just a bit dumb..
It's actually a good phone, I hv had it for almost a year, and I like it, cos its a portable entertainment system, literally. Good sound, plays back video like a dream, not like a crappy phone, but actually like a tiny tv screen.
And one thing I love, I have contacts, images, sms, videos, games, movies, it does not lag or hang. Nobody in here has complained abt that, cos it really doesnt lag at all! Wish I could say the same for most phones out there, with all the bells & whistles, they can't even make a phone that works smoothly, most of the time.
So this is good, cos it works on a basic level, but still has crazy crazy features!

this phone is not good. the features are great though with FM tuner, mp3 player, video player, voice recorder, and its touchscreen which makes life easier to SMS. But the battery is SHORT. If you talk regularily, the battery will run out in one day or sometimes less. When u play with feautures, the battery dimishes really fast. The camera isnt good either. I had this phone for about 7 months and i am going to trade it in for an L7 cuz its thin, long battery life and probably has a better camera. The other thing about this phone is that the screen is pretty durable but a screen protector would be needed if your gonna put it in ur pocket. the touchscreen isnt that good either. Sure its cool, but when u put it in ur pocket, ur might accidentally press a feauture and the battery like will be gone. sometimes u accidentally call someone and ur money is gone. but, overall, this phone is very user friendly but im just sick of all the inconviniences this phone brought me.

Hehe - Check JBenchmark, Jbenchmark 3D and you see the Nokia "smart" phones (hehe) is the ass, compared to that Motorola mobile.

do you mean by "video", movies that can be seen on this mobile after converting them to a supportable format? if so, you might be right but i didn't buy this phone after watching its camera results both in still image and video. rest, i felt its ringing tones too low ... at least lower than my requirements.

I bought E680i when i saw the video or sound quality of this mobile. I never ever saw till time which have this kinds of functions. I am still waiting for upgrade of this mobile. the usage of this mobile nice. the graphics of this mobile great. video & sound quality of this mobile unbeatable till now. I requested to Motorola Company to kindly urgently announce upgrade of this mobile.

is there any use of linux based mobile? if so please let me know! i am currently using 6630 which is a symbian mobile. symbian is best in availability of external softwares so far!

i buy tis phone last week.tis phone is incredible!!!it has many functions and you cant imagine how great is the touch screen!!so nice!!!so buy it!!tis is more better than E2!!!

i just got the e680i 2 weeks ago, phone works great, its one of the best ive ever had, just having one little problem with it, ive already bought two memory cards for it, a 1gig and a 2 gig, but it impossiblew for me transfer information between the computer and phone, if i use a card reader to transfer info into my card and then place in my phone, the phone does not recognize any format of songs on the card, mp3, wav, many others.anyone got an answer for my problem, id appreciate it, my email is ,italiano21_mtl@hotmail.com, thank you.
