              I bought it on AliExpress with the original Chinese ROM. I was able to download Google play, maps, contacts, calendar working (need to enable google play services first).

              The only problem is that, when someone calls (I'm in Montreal, Canada), the phone app detects the city as Mongolia, lol.
              Does anyone have a work around?

                          Anonymous, 05 Apr 2022MEDIATEK COOLER THAN QUALCOMM??!? mediatek burns your batte... more It is true though, that the Dimensity 9000 heats less than an 8 Gen 1, TSMC's manufacturing is superior to Samsung's (D9000's by TSMC, 8G1 by Samsung).
                          But Qualcomm's getting its shit together and cooperating with TSMC to make the 8+ Gen 1 which- so far- is at least looking like it's outperforming the Dimensity 9000.
                          iPhones don't thermal throttle also? And I'm pretty sure MediaKek and SnapDragon and Apple are going for efficiency (aka working with TSMC as much as possible) every year, Apple DOES throttle the performance intentionally to reduce the load on their relatively tiny battery cells (2500mAh on the 13mini, 3200mAh on the standard 13, 3000 on the 13Pro, and 4352mAh on the 13ProMax), Xiaomi, Sam that once sung (they quit) and the rest of Android manufacturers throttle their chips for heat management and battery life also, all handheld devices do that to an extent.
                          Other than that yeah, even if an identically spec-d D9000 device was cheaper by like 50-80euros I'd pick one with an 8/8+Gen1 for the reasons you listed.
                          I feel like Qualcomm is so much ahead of MediaTek in terms of developer friendliness, that it just translates to better performance, not to say that MediaTek is worse per se, but they're just behind when it comes to media coverage (get it?), and the fact that they're closed source doesn't help either.

                                  MEDIATEK COOLER THAN QUALCOMM??!? mediatek burns your battery life and burns your hands, qualcomm might throttle harshly on phones with lower end cooling (like this one, to be fair, most phones nowadays throttle harshly. iphones do, androids do, basically everyone is throttling to the max. we need to bring back metal phones tbh, or quit going for performance and go for efficiency one year!), but its not going to come ANYWHERE NEAR the heat and throttle of a mediatek. mediatek also lacks in optimization, because of their closed source nature, theres no one there to really "help" improve and audit the code, only some chinese employees locked up in the mediatek facility. (same goes for companies like apple, its why their older phones are so damn slow on the latest version of ios, while older androids with a custom rom still perform amazing), oh, did i mention custom roms? you lose that with mediatek (for the most part) because of their closed source kernel and such. basically, give up on trying to get updates after the phone isnt supported anymore, and this is MOTOROLA we are talking about, with their super lackluster update cylces. not samsung where at least your updates would be good.. (not super good value tho). in summary, mediatek wont help anything, at all. mediatek has less custom roms, less battery life, gets hotter and less optimization, so overall, mediatek isnt really a good option vs qualcomm.

                                    Man I probably would've gotten this phone if Motorola didn't choose the inferno Qualcomm calls the 8 Gen 1. They should've just waited and went with the Dimensity 9000. The manufacturing cost would've been lower, the performance would've been more stable, and it wouldn't have gotten hot enough to cause second degree burns.
