Motorola FLIPOUT official, packs Android 2.1, five-row QWERTY

Leave it to Motorola to make an Android handset with an odd form factor. While unusual looking at first, the Motorola FLIPOUT MOTOBLUR-packing phone has a five row QWERTY keyboard with a separate numbers row - that's something you don't see every day.

In the photos it looks quite a slab but a glance at the specs tells a different story - the Motorola FLIPOUT is very compact. Its face is a square just 67x67 millimeters in size. It is a lot like a smartphone Motocubo A45.

The Motorola FLIPOUT runs Android 2.1 with Motorola's social networking friendly MOTOBLUR user interface. The small size of the phone also dictates a small screen - 2.8-inches with QVGA resolution. Then again, the screen covers almost the entire front half - it couldn't have been any bigger at those dimensions.

The FLIPOUT comes with a 2GB microSD card, but if you have it, you can use cards up to 32GB. The connectivity is well covered with quad-band GSM/EDGE and HSPA-enabled 3G.

The Motorola FLIPOUT also features Wi-Fi, GPS with digital compass and the MOTOBLUR UI, which aggregates Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and Gmail streams for full social networking experience.

The centerpiece is the 5-row QWERTY keyboard, which means the Motorola FLIPOUT is not only good at receiving messages but at sending them too.

The Motorola FLIPOUT is expected to hit the shelves in the second quarter and considering we're at the end of it, it shouldn't be long before it happens. Motorola didn't specify where it will be available or what kind of money it will cost, though.
