"The design simply carries on the old V3 theme. They cost a lot when released but drop 80% of their value within a few weeks."

oh yes, because adding an indented thumb print has kept the 8800SE design so new. the 8800 is over a year old pal, hello! open your eyes!

and of course we want our phones to remain expensive because they're like cars and we need them to hold their value for trade-ins and what not. how ridiculous. nokia purposely keeps that phone expensive just so you think it's special. they could be selling it for $200 if they wanted to! and you fall for it like a wimp!

i didn't ask your personal opinion of motorola phone. i'm going by fact. fact is that motorola has fitted more features into a smaller, thinner case that's just as attractive for less than half the money. it is also more useful as a quadband world roaming handset. you cannot argue this, just give pityful "moto sucks" jargon.

"Well, 6hr talk and 300hr standby is B.S.! (256k color scr. + MP3 + Bluetooth!). We all know from previous exp. that Moto and SE greatly exagurate batterry life spec."

the battery times are inflated of course. but motorola is not the most notorious for this. infact i point you to a european study that actually tested phones's battery lives in comparison to what the manufacturer states:

http://www.amobil.no/artikkel/mobiltelefoner/talk_time_testing-_for_real/28475/2

nokia came out some of the biggest losers, their chunky brick n-series phones as well as.. well, what do we have here:

"For instance, the Nokia 8800 has a list price of more than $600 and still falls short of 3,5 hours of talk time. Many of Nokia's other flagships, such as the 3250 and 6233, have just as poor battery life."

http://www.amobil.no/intern/mobiltelefoner/talk_time_testing-_for_real/28475/1

you know what one of the top handsets were? THE MOTOROLA RAZR V3 with 6 HOURS vs. the manufacturer rated 7 HOURS. the V3, which is thinner than the 8800, has DOUBLE THE BATTERY LIFE. and that's with a 262,000 color screen and bluetooth pal! you know what the battery of the V3 is? li-ion 680mAh. how could the KRZR K1 not maintain similar times with a higher capacity?!?!

motorola rates k1 at almost 7 hours. that's why i say krzr will be double the 8800se. i'm taking into account the inflated times and adjusting and when all is said and done, the krzr k1 will still beat the 8800se's horrible battery life by a far margin! all in a smaller package! all for less than half the price! all in a design which, when letting sales talk (even when V3 was expensive it sold more at a faster rate), has been more widely accepted across the globe!

anybody else need their ass handed to them?

    OK, AT LEAST SOME IMPROVEMENT:
1)Finally a normal Keypad layout on Motorola!
    2)Stereo Bluetooth profile (A2DP)

    CONS:
-Too thin again! (uncomfortable to hold!)
-Due to thinness is Batterry capacity of only 780 mAh.

Well, 6hr talk and 300hr standby is B.S.! (256k color scr. + MP3 + Bluetooth!). We all know from previous exp. that Moto and SE greatly exagurate batterry life spec.

How can you even compare this to a nokia 8800 for desing or N80 for features? Motorola phone are garbage, unreliable and outdated. The design simply carries on the old V3 theme. They cost a lot when released but drop 80% of their value within a few weeks. This thing just screems bad taste.

oh yeah, and i keep forgetting to mention one of the most important factors of all.

i couldn't agree more, saimon. the krzr k1 is smaller, thinner and lighter yet it has twice the battery life of the 8800se, faster data and a microSD slot. that longer battery also has to power -two screens- btw. all in an arguably more attractive package.

nokia was outgunned on this one. moto made sure it was released right along the 8800. look at the front page of gsmarena, in stores now section. there together head to head.

Just picked one up at the shop for US$400 only(discounted already). Nice to hold because of the overall slim design(slim do not mean thin, flat & wide like recent Samsung phones which are uncomfortable to hold).

I only brought the Nokia 8800 sirocco yesterday & this K1 today, so I can only give basic comparison of this phone with my black 8800 sirocco :-
The blue colour K1 is shiny & sharp(the new Nokia 8800 sirocco in black is also very shiny).
I prefer the look of my original 8800 to the sirocco. Regarding the look of the K1, it's very modern but not as classy looking as the 8800.

Feel of the sirocco is solid but the K1 is not bad either.

The K1 does not look much narrower than the sirocco but it feels a lot narrower in your hand. K1 is also thinner.

The K1 screen resolution is not in the same class as the sirocco(my Moto A1200 beats them both). Don't understand why Motorola is still using the same resolution as my old V3 or my D&G V3i ?

The flip of the K1 is very easy to open & close with one hand.

The MENU is almost the same as the Moto V3 series.

I have to play more with this 2 phones to tell which one is better.......even though the 8800 is more than double the price of thr K1.

This K1 was one of the many new Moto phones on display at the large South Africian Moto phone announcement.

The GSM version is in ice blue color & the CDMA version in greyish black with touch sensitive keys for playing music below the outer screen.

The ice blue color is much sharper than the black..........under bright light; it look so shiny like the diamonds from South Africa!

The outer cover/flip look like a shiny, clear transparent glass which is not prone to leave finger prints on it. The blue color layer used under the transparent cover is a non-reflective material.......this make the phone look to be covered by a layer of reflective blue mirror whch does look like shiny reflective South Africian diamond under bright lights........amazing!

Function is not the major selling point of this phone, but basically, everything you need is there.

The camera lens is a little on the dim side, a little brighter would be nice.

The speaker at the back is loud & sound quality is very good.

This phone support T-flash card & A2DP Bluetooth technology, which make listening to music more relaxing.

The keypad of the display K1 feels a little hard to press.

In my opinion, this MOTORKRZR K1 is better looking than the MOTORIZR which was also at the show. The RIZR do carry shade of Korean look.

There's also the 3.5G MOTORAZA maxx; MOTORAZA xx & the very thin MOTOFONE at the show.

2 new handsfree bluetooth, the H601.......which is made specially for the MOTOKRZR with a LED light to show battery condition, and a H800. Both use "Easy Pair" technology.
