AUSTRALIAN review with some information EXCLUSIVE to this country.
Having been an Oppo user for three years - specifically their A72 (locked, and exclusive to Optus), or the A9 (the unlocked equivalent), I am comparing the Moto g62 with those phones.
I have never been a high-end phone user because I don't live, breathe or go to bed with my phone. Under $400 does me just fine. This bumps out most of Samsung and definitely Apple!
Pros, cons & comparisons:
Oppo A72 (or) A9 versus Moto g62...
Both phones are basically the equivalent of one another - give or take the expected intricate differences native to both brands' individual designs and configurations. However, these really don't present any significant issues if you're going from one to the next.
Both phones have 128GB of internal storage.
Both are equipped with a 5000 battery:
The current "best" type on the market, allowing for longer usage, less drainage and less need for constant recharging.
Both phones have dual speakers - one at either end (left & right) and both brands' with their own, individual configuration of surround sound. Motorola is using Dolby Atmos; Oppo has their own surround set-up. (Dolby and/or other trademark surround patent or licensing name is not specified in the Oppo Sound menu, however surround, atmospheric audio is definitely provided.)
On the Moto g62, the physical speakers are configured into the top and bottom edges of the phone (where the charger is inserted), instead of on the front (front-facing). This allows for the audio to project outward and up from either end of the device when being flipped to landscape/game position.
With regard to the headphone audio, the surround is also present, with sub-menus with various sound options for the most optimal sound, depending on the specific type of audio you're listening to.
Here's where the Moto g62 wins out! The audio, particularly from the physical speakers, is louder by ratio, and FAR MORE PUNCHY on the Motorola.
Both have 5G compatibility.
Both have 4GB of RAM.
The cameras on both offer the standard wide and zoom features, but they also provide a macro lens for extreme close-ups, and an ULTRA-wide lens for stunning scope and outdoor shooting. Great for photographing architecture or broad landscapes.
Both also feature a night shooting mode so you can still capture detail and definition while shooting in darker zones - handy for the campfire gathering on the next camping trip, or capturing stunning city lights after sunset!
These, of course being separate again to the Panoramic feature present in both phones for those INSANELY wide photos!
The camera filter options are far more varied on the Moto g62, in both front-facing and selfie modes than the generic set native to most Oppo phones. That's a good incentive for anyone wanting a bit more colour and shading to play with if they don't necessarily want to download third-party camera apps from Google.
g62 has very clear, crisp definition on the screen's display. Nothing at all to be disappointed with here.
The only slight drawback with the g62, by absolute comparison with Oppo's A72/A9 is the lack of some very standard and handy apps. g62 does not come with its own weather or file manager apps. These will need to be downloaded from PlayStore. (Appy Weather & BOM (Bureau of Meteorology (in Australia)) are two recommendations. There are endless dependable file manager options at PlayStore also.
The Oppos also came with some other bonuses, such as Google Keep Notes, Opera browser, Office Suite and WPS already being present on the phone when purchased. You'll have to visit PlayStore yourself with the g62.
The other handy candy on the Oppos was the Screen Off app (inbuilt/native). A simple app to tap and turn off the phone, instead of using the power button. That's great for those (like myself) who refuse to touch the power button with their thumb - particularly when we've declined to set up thumbprint recognition. (On the Oppo A9 it was a 'double-tap the home screen' action that allowed the user to switch off.). Again, PlayStore has a stack of screenhoff apps that do the trick. (The one I love is: Off (Screen off/Screen lock) by stanwu.org - works brilliantly and NO ADS!!!)
In terms of overall performance and response, the Moto g62 is the winner. This was the first HUGE relief I experienced when I set up the device. It actually obeys the commands you press! EVERYBODY SING! The trouble I found - repeatedly - with Oppo was the very retarded and slow responses to commands. Three taps were sometimes necessary to simply activate and app or a Settings menu option. Which brings us to download speed...
The Oppo was like paying off a mortgage! eBay, for example, would take five minutes to install from PlayStore. Apps, in general, were just a pain right in the ass when installing.
With Moto g62, they take literally seconds. The phone is built with a speed feature (the specifics of which I am not thoroughly familiar with, however a notification popped up when PlayStore was first used with this phone, indicating that there is an assistive accelerator designed to download and install apps much faster. And it sure does!)
Both phones come with a protective jelly case - although, with the Motorola, this might be a JB Hi-Fi exclusive addition. (To be confirmed.) The model stocked at Officeworks does not. However, their one is retailing at $319, as at August 2022. JB has it for $399 (jelly case included). BUT, JB DOES PRICE MATCH, and this is how I got mine from them for $319 with a jelly case, matched to Officeworks! $80 discount...not bad at all!
The g62 is available in a Midnight Grey (dull finish, metal hue) or a Frosted Blue (light, metallic, blue-ish/silver finish).
Charger, charging cable and earphones are included.
Set-up with g62 is very simple and user-friendly, with most features explained before a choice to opt is required.
Overall, for its price point and features as a whole package, I was very pleasantly surprised with this phone's delivery and features.
Its overall appearance is slick and handsome.
There is a lot of odd debate about Motorola as a smartphone product, since the inception of the smartphone. Many are insisting that, where once they were the top brand in the days of the standard cell mobile phones, they have fallen away in quality and performance in the current technological world.
I have to disagree completely on this one. Personally, this phone and, so far, the brand have provided me with a shot-load of relief in terms of its get-up-and-go!
So, would I immediately recommend the Motorola moto g62 to someone looking for a not-so-expensive, efficient, quick, obedient, value-for-money, highly attractive handset?
YOU BLOODY BET!!!

Whoever calling 4GB is enough in 2022 is straight up braindead. I've a flagship from 2017 with 4GB ram, apps get killed most of the time. Also it is 'DEBLOATED' like no useless apps are running in the background. At least 6 and preferably 8 for medium to heavy usage.

I find Motorola quite appalling and also discriminatory - why are other countries provided with higher specs/ram and a cheaper price for the same handset. Very very unfair.

Anonymous, 08 Aug 20224GB is more than adequate. May I remind you that Moto uses ... more
I have the phone and have since tried to return it
4GB is no where enough in 2022. It might have been enough back in 2020. But certain apps have since updated, and become more resource heavy.
The phone stutters and lags, slows down randomly at unexpected points. Activating developer setting and checking running services reveals the amount of background system apps hogging resources.
Not sure why everyone thinks motorola is "stock android", when that's far from the truth. It might have a stock android skin, but it's just as hogged down with moto background apps as other chinese brands with their own system apps.
Anyhow, my phone is supposed to have 4gb ram. It actually has 3.4gb total, and the available free ram around 800mb. This is even before downloading and using social media apps.
The background service apps that were constantly running were:
Moto device care
Moto device health services
Moto device management
Moto Emergency alerts
Lenovo ID app
Moto Ai
Moto gesture service
Moto app launcher
Moto DCI service
Moto discovery
Moto display
Moto feedback
Moto intelligence
Moto touch
Moto thinkshield
Moto message service
Moto services main
Moto notifications
Moto slpc system
Moto software update
Moto system software update (2)
Moto thermal service
Moto performance
Moto system UI
These background services don't include the standard google background apps that are also running simultaneously (e.g google play services, play store, google framework, google assistant, youtube etc etc etc etc) or the Qualcomm apps/services - that are also running.
I tried using a less ram hogging keyboard app but for some reason your can't even disable Gboard or uninstall it. Even when using a different keyboard, Gboard still hogs over 120mb ram and constantly runs in the background. No way to turn it off. Using another keyboard app on top just hoggs more resources.
Now think about it, when you add additional apps on top of all of those - such as insta, snapchat, twitter and other social media apps - you REALLY start noticing the absymal limitations of the device/4GB ram.
I don't even game, and I dread to think what downloading a game or two would have done.
Some of the background moto apps you cannot even disable or freeze. Force stopping them just makes them restart.
Don't make the mistake of thinking Motorola is "Stock" or even remotely "close to stock", as this is an utter fallacy.
4GB ram for a basic stutter free experience is nigh on impossible in 2022, let alone 2023. I also don't want to hear the counter argument concerning the price. Poco/xiaomi/realme/oppo all have similar devices with higher ram (6gb) and being sold for cheaper.

The 480+ is fine no problem with that.
The phone itself it´s ok, but an OLED screen they would have nailed it. I don´t think it´s worth an upgrade from people coming from an G51 or even a G50. Which by the way works fine

Kho Auza, 08 Aug 2022I think motorola should revised their old logo or put it on... moreLOL, why should they do that?
They did in the past putting the brand name on the bottom of the phone. Looks very old fashion that way, Nokia (HMD) is doing that.
Leave the iconic "M" logo alone. Looks fine

I think motorola should revised their old logo or put it on other side or position to be able to catch up buyers, which could keep them up in modern market.
They always stuck their antique style.
Sorry, just saying

XXUnkownFlipUser, 28 Jul 2022First of all. Who cares about the battery, ram, or how it g... moreIt's regression & reductive. Also not cost effective for the end consumer - when compared to moto g's previous models.
Yes people might be happy with the performance now - but give it a few months, and then ask them how they feel. I'm pretty sure it will be an entirely different story. Heck, even google recommend a minimum of 6gb ram for android 12. Imagine the requirements for android 13 and android 14.
480+ is a very very low end basic entry level 5g chipset, regardless of what the benchmarks might say. It just about keeps up with the dimensity 700, released at the end of 2020, beginning of 2021.
4gb ram is pathetic in 2022. Moto's own Moto G 5g plus received criticism for the paltry 4gb ram back in 2019, however they also offered a 6gb variant.
2.5 years later, and they're still releasing handsets priced at £200 with 4gb ram, and a 6gb/128gb only in selected markets (Spain).
Compared to their competition (realme, poco, xiaomi etc etc) - all generally offer the option of higher ram/higher storage, and often cheaper. Take the poco m4 pro 5g - 6gb ram, stereo speakers, faster charging 30+w, faster processor etc all for less than £200.
Moto haven't progressed, their prices have stayed the same and in some instances, prices have increased and the standard of tech/features lowered, and they have a very confusing line/model variant system - with no real continuity from the spec/price of previous models.

Michal, 18 Jul 2022What the hell is wrong with phones this year ? Most new m... moreFirst of all. Who cares about the battery, ram, or how it got downgraded? What if it had a downgrade. Why does my mom and brother love this phone? Because They love the performance of the phone. Don't say that my brother and mom did not use this phone. My bro got his phone in July 15th and my mom has got hers a week ago! The performance is good and it may be good for people like people who are looking to buy for a Budget phone! Ugh. People ranting on phones these days😐🙄

Most new m... moreChip shortages, longer lead times, creative havoc. They also might over-order so many 480+ and end up using them in multiple products just to move them.
At least the chip is a decent good one, even with the 400 series moniker.

Michal, 18 Jul 2022What the hell is wrong with phones this year ? Most new m... moreIt isnt really a worse SOC its on par in terms of benchmarks while also being cheaper than a 7xx snapdragon chip. It does lose a bit of battery capacity but that doesnt always correlate with worse battery life as it is a slightly smaller screen. As for the RAM the g60 did in fact have a 4gb on option. So this isnt really a worse phone. It is just a refreshed g60 without anything really revolutionary

Anonymous, 18 Jul 2022I own a Xiaomi Redmi 10C SD680 4GB phone & even with it... moreI thought that too - but that isn't the experience you get with this device.
The 120hz screen is nice - but even that doesn't prevent the lags and stutters, which kind of ruins the experience.
There is also no ram expansion option in the settings - so you're capped at 4GB.
My g62 is supposed to be 4GB - but it's actually 3.48GB (actual total ram). After set up & activating developer options - It said there was 800mb free/available ram!
It constantly stopped certain certain apps and would restart them (including my navigation app).
There is no way this will sustain you for a 18/24 month period, as more and more apps etc are updating and becoming resource heavy.
4GB is just too little to comfortably run all of todays apps (social networks/youtube/banking/navigation/nfc payments/covid pass app) etc
