Purchased a Moto Z play and was very impressed. purchased a few mods ( Hasselblad Camera, Incipio power pack, and speakers). After a few years and the demise of the indestructible screen I looked at getting a Z4 only to find they were only released in the US.
Sad end to a great idea and the abandonment of UK Users. now I have a Samsung and will never buy a Motorola again. Pity really as this was the phone that eclipsed the Startac.

It has a very clean and neutral sound output, no discoloration. Instrument separation and layering in particular is remarkably exceptional for a smartphone; details are detailed. And overall tonality is very natural sounding across the entire spectrum. You can get an even better sound depending on which USB C to 3.5mm adapter/DAC you use.

To my surprise, this phone has ended up being great for only one thing now: playing music.
I own multiple expensive DAPs (aka "MP3 player"), as well as an iPod Touch, and the audio output quality coming out of a USB C to 3.5mm adapter is absolutely on par with those devices.
It's perhaps THE best sound quality I've ever heard on a phone that doesn't have a dedicated DAC (e.g. LG V30).
The GSMarena review was certainly right when they said "great start for a phone with no headphone jack". The first jack-less phone wasn't that bad after all.

Still performs fine. It lasts as long as a 2600mah battery should last (i.e. not long).

Update: Bootloader came unlocked thankfully. I just flashed DotOS 5.2 and now the phone feels extremely satisfying to use. Battery standby is very impressive, it only dropped 1% after 10 hours of inactivity. Though it has a 2600mah battery, I feel that the battery can last more than a day.

OMG, my Moto Z just came in the mail today. I bought a refurbed one from Aliexpress for just $100.
WOW! This phone is super thin and light, it feels like I'm holding a premium slab of metal. I'm seriously amazed by it, and this is 2016 tech.
I knew I would like this phone. If only they could make phones as thin and light as this one in 2022. The feel in the hand is super satisfying. $100 much well spent.
