Fido has released their 1st 3G phone on Nov 1st the LG tu500 and the V9 is going to be released on Nov 24th. Both Rogers and Fido have 3G service in most major cities but the phones must run on the 850 band and not 900.

Because it is a fashionably obsolete feature.

It's not that it's not cool for you, it's not piping hot with the oldest technologies on the face of the earth for you.

HSDPA is NOT high speed data packet access. It's High-Speed Downlink Packet Access. Neither has Rogers Wireless taken out the D, because all the phones that they are going to use and bring out in 2008 like this RAZR2 V9, the K850 soon and the HTC TyTNII around Q2-Q3.
Why it's not HSPA is because there's something called E-HSPA, Evolved-High-Speed Packet Access, for speeds higher then HSDPA, at 41Mbps.
There's also HSUPA which is the lowest, it's peak speed at around 5-6Mbps, the U for Uplink, the HSOPA which speeds peak nearly 100 Mbps, O standing for OFDM or Orthogonal.
HSOPA stands very close to XOHM in the US, but is a predominant and higher form of pre-4G technology. Right now, it's infamous for setting itself up in Japan, finishing development/deployment and set-up in 2010.

        4XNV (exec)-
FIDO has 3G(HSDPA) service now, and I think it might be open to any phone, but the LG770(?) is being released as their first 3G flagship phone, and Rogers Wireless is already advertising that video calling phone on their posters around the city (Toronto).

        PxBy (sitcoms)-
WRONG, not all 3G/HSDPA/UMTS phones support video calling. SE makes a perfect example with that. The W950 is their UMTS/Symbian smartphone, and it has 3G capabilities for internet purposes at 386kbps.
BUT YES, this phone supports video calling. It's probably meant just to share, literally, views for opinions and such. I suppose as well, the video calling feature supports closing the flip, or you'd have to have a headset connected (by bluetooth) to the phone to continue your video conversation.

        PEBU (Dave)-
If they deny that Video Calling works with the RAZR2 V9, then why is it so highly advertised all over the place? Like on the very Motorola RAZR2 V8/V9 website, where it says HSDPA (V9 Only), or what about Rogers Wireless in Canada? It's the 2nd (suppose to be the 3rd) video calling phone in Canada's 'arsenal'.

        PBG3/w0QN (louie)-
And I suppose you own a RAZR2 V9, don't take the complete insolent side when you don't even know if the phone, unless your phone is carrier dependant, works with video calling.
If not, then the only thing I can tell you is, if you're from you US, looks like Motorola favored the Canadians and gave us, HSDPA video calling and internet supremacy.

As well, the phone pictured here is the V9m. Originally, the V9m was the ONLY phone to have the, forgive me for my irresponsibility to remember, red-ish color. If you'd like to bring up why the picture doesn't have a button specific for video calls, then it just proves the V9m does NOT have video calling purposes. That leaves the V9 ONLY to have HSDPA. Also, there's not button that ends video calling, you just use the regular red button for ending calls.

louie, V( does video call, external camera is used for this process, why else would you have a 2inch external screen, had the phone for nearly 2 months and have used video calling several times, also currently have a 4gig micro sd in mine working with no problem. dont listen to dave as he has no idea, he must be confused with v8

Can anyone tell me which OS this phone runs? The Synergy OS which most MOtorola phones run is very bad compared to that of nokia and sony ericsson.

I heard the V9 runs on a linux based OS. Is it true?

HSPDA is high speed data packet access, basicly its the new form of the EDGE mobile internet that is alot faster and smoother. I saw all the features like video call, and the much smoother mobile TV. Rogers has taken out the D in there so its easier to remember and also they call it "Vision" in the stores.

The moto v9 does support video calling with only one camera. That's the poing of a 3G phone. The phone is supposed to be released in Canada November 22nd with the Fido Carrier. If there are people still thinking the phone does not support video calling maybe they're confusing the V8 and V9 versions.

Hey guys, u don't need a very expensive phone. Motorola here in Philippines is one of the cheapest mobile phone brand yet has a a rich features phone.

Put this in your mind, as long as you can call or text. Its okay now if u can afford to buy phone like this or much more expensive then much better. We don't care if Pim owns a very old crap cheap Nokia 3210 5110 as long as it is working.

                                    Do i make sense here?

                                      @Dave

To tell u honestly, i was absolutely wrong, i've look at the features of the phone in the V9 page, it does video calling. If u think that GSMArena.com is wrong about it better visit this page:

                                      http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/details.jsp?globalObjectId=201

and look for the Summary of Features. You'll see this fature of the phone there "Video telephony and See What I See capable¹"
