Motorola Razr 50 Ultra/razr+ (2024) review

GSMArena Team, 25 June 2024.

Design, build quality, handling

The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is the best Razr to date, one that has the right hint of nostalgia, the small pinch of old-school coolness, and everything a modern smartphone needs to have to impress.

Let's start with the fact that one of the most notable omissions from the Razr 40 Ultra has been solved - water protection. The new Razr 50 Ultra is IPX8-rated for water resistance. That's quite the improvement over the Razr 40 Ultra's 'water-repellent coating'.

The hinge has been further improved this generation with smaller yet better design. The new mechanism supports all sorts of angles, and in the fully open state you cannot feel the screen crease unless you press more firmly on its supposed spot.

We do applaud Motorola for taking the extra step to ensure the cover screen is as impressive as the internal one - it has small bezels, high brightness, dynamic refresh rate, and even Dolby Vision support.

The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is going to be available in Spring Green, Midnight Blue, Peach Fuzz, and Hot Pink.

The design stays the same across all three colorways even if the faux leather texture might differ. For example - our version has two stripes with the usual leather texture and a middle part that looks like it has been ironed out, creating an interesting visual contrast.

The cover screen has Gorilla Glass Victus protection, and it is now a bit larger than on the 40 Ultra - 4.0-inch vs 3.6-inch. It is an LTPO OLED panel with high resolution, dynamic 165Hz refresh rate and even Dolby Vision support. It has three punch holes for the two 50MP rear cameras and the LED flash.

The camera rings are made of metal and are jutting out of the glass, just like on most phones.

The stainless-steel hinge cover is all glossy, thick and solid, and yet looks quite compact. This part fully disappears when you open the phone. As promised, the hinge supports all sorts of opened positions, and it clicks super nice when fully opened.

Once opened, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra reveals the 6.9-inch LTPO foldable OLED of extended 1080p resolution and 22:9 aspect ratio. It has a small punch hole for the 32MP selfie camera. Of course, the rear cameras are better suited for selfie purposes thanks to the 4" OLED viewfinder.

The foldable screen is bezel-less, though its plastic enclosure kills that feel quite fast. The crease is invisible and incredibly tough to feel unless you press on its spot.

The earpiece above the screen doubles as a speaker to form a stereo pair. The main speaker is at the bottom, next to the USB-C port.

There are five microphones across the frame of the Razr 50 Ultra.

The power/lock key also doubles as an always-on fingerprint sensor.

Motorola Razr 50 Ultra review

The Razr 50 Ultra is nicely pocketable and feels great in your hand. Its vegan leather rear side offers excellent grip, and it balances out the glossy parts of the Razr, such as the frame and the cover screen.

We found the phone stylish and beautiful and easy to work with in both its open and closed states. Overall, excellent work from Motorola!

There was no need to include buds in the package. It has unnecessary increased its price. They should have given this as an optional. I am using my Bose buds. This are unused.

It has a 512GB or storage and it's really compact phone. You really don't need a SD card

It's not a critical problem. It works as it should on RAZORs 50 and on 40 you can just use Gemini
