Had this phone a week and whereas I like it, a couple of things about it are driving me nuts! How in gods name can you set the SMS tone? Changing it in the ring styles section doesn't work. It just plays the ringtone specified in the categories section of the contacts instead. Very annoying! Manual is absolutely no help. Can't work out how to add a photo to a contact either...

Shareef...yes you can set ringtones to each person, and defaults or other ringtones to others. For sms, if you set a ringtone for your contact, that person's sms will have the same ringtone as call tone.

i used a v300 and a v3 before the features suck and this motorola phone battery life sucks and by the way, people from all around the world mostly use nokia phones and i know it because i am a business man in nokia and i saw the poll rates! motorola also hangs for a matter, i know 3230 hangs but motorola phones hang a lot more than nokia

Your fren??!!? Have you use any Motorola phones before? I notice a lot of bad reviews were given by people who never used the phone before. Yes, some user do experience glicthes on the phone but do other phone from Nokia and Se are 100% trouble free? I don't think so. I've use Nokia and SE before too and they have their problems. Nokia? My 3230 off by itself when i put it in my pocket (battery problem?). My SE k700i always hang and the d-pad key spoilt after 2 months of usage. Come on...pls do not slam other phone if you haven't use it before.

ok guys, for those who's been having problems with locating/loading MP3's on the V3i you should have that flashed to another firmware as not only does it free up MORE built-in memory, it can also help to solve the 50-100 song limit imposed by iTunes.

as well I believe MP3 ringtones on Motorola's are limited to 30seconds long & it must be under a certain size i think.

Being a V3i user, I must comment the V3i review posted on this site:
The review is very subjective, frequently incorrect and obviously unfriendly to Motorola as a brand. Just look at some statements from the said review:

“Overall picture quality provided is rather poor” (!!! – comparing to what? It is well known that V3i camera pictures are of very good quality for a 1.2 mpx resolution)
“Camera creates strange vertical photos” (put it in a desired position for god’s sake, and it wont shot a car bumper vertically!!)
“Cameras: the megapixel is useless without a memory card” (of course one should save the picture onto a memory card, it’s no big deal)
                                    And here’s more:
“Controls: further errors to comment on” (!)
“Messaging: poor iTap and unpractical keypad” (v3i messaging/keypad is the most comfortable I’ve used so far on a non-qwerty phone, please name one that is more user friendly)

“You may sometimes get confused as to what this or that menu option means” (yes, if you’re a 4 year old child)
“Synchronization and data transfers between PC and each of the phones require the installation of the new version of the software Motorola Mobile Phone Tools, which has to be bought additionally” (wrong, at least in my country)
“It seems as if Motorola failed to catch up with technological innovations” (!! - this one speaks for itself)

CONCLUSION: The review is not on the level of other reviews posted on gsmarena and the reputation of this site. I’d like to ask future v3i users to carefully take into consideration the statements from the above mentioned review, cause many of them are not benevolent to potential owners of V3i. (I’d also like to ask gsmarena not to remove my post from the site, and give a chance to large number of future users to read a different oppinion)
