All you need is to install sofwear and change setting in you cell phone. Please note I have a Motrolla set too and it worked though I bought from an Asian market.

You see when you watch to much T.V. this is what happens.
You acting like the z8 was the only 3g enabled phone when it came out, for all you know they could've used the N95 or a Samsung u700.

He didn't have the money on him and I did and I thought that this phone had everything so i bought it. I had no time to go home and check out this phones features, I had the opportunity so I took it OK. That was one opportunity I really shouldn't have taken.

Kryptonite, 13 Feb 2009To tell you the honest truth, this phone is semi-complicate... moreTo answer your question:
Next problem; 3G; here I was thinking that Motorola’s 3g enabled phones could’ve worked in the U.S.A. when I go there I can’t use it, and why is that, because the 3g’s band is 2100; why can’t Motorola, wait, all phone companies see that we people travel and need 3g that can work in more than one part of the world, well I see Motorola has 9 phones with 3g that can be used in America, at least!
You need to thank the Americans who use special frequency away from the rest of the world...where the rest of the world using GSM 3G are running on WCDMA 2100, the "American 3G" runs on GSM850/1900.
So most quad-band phones from Europe / Asia only works on the 2G network in US. I don't really know any (Moto) phone that suppports both US 3G and European / Asian 3G. If you do, please let me know.
Phones like Z8 which support GSM850/900/1800/1900/WCDMA 2100 should work most parts of the world....where Japan runs on its own frequency but now also shares WCDMA2100, with US using GSM850/1900...but no 3G connection with the rest of the world.
Maybe the Americans did that on purpose to "defend" themselves from the terrorists...so they cannot video call each other for details on how to take down more buildings / airplanes.

I paid US$250 for my unit last June, which I thought the deal was "ok", given I've other "media monsters" to serve my other needs.
My Z8 works as a "phone"....even less media than my Z3. (now in the shop again!)

You know what lets all be honest about the z8..all of you including myself..the only cool thing was the kick slide feature, sound and colour of the phone..other than that. It is a piece of junk. I sold mine yesterday near to nothing to what i paid for it. I am now getting a SE f305..lets hope that is gona be better.

You know what really disappointed me, this phone has a new, newer seen design and I thought that it would have everything, now when I got the phone I immediately went on gsmarena to check out the phones specs and I'll tell you the honest truth, my heart sank to my belly, it was a really a disappointment. I had this phone for exactly 4 days and then I sold it, I couldn't live with that disappointing phone. Well I have a samsung u700 and a Motorola w510 and I'm saving for either the Nokia 5310 or the 5610, i haven't decided which one yet.But that z8 was a real disappointment.

The Good
Good Point; The display is very good when playing videos (3gpp, mp4).
Next Good Point; the speaker is loud, clear and clean.
Next Good Point; video recording is extremely good, this phone records QVGA video in 3gpp format 29fps!! Most phones record video at 12 to 15fps so for this phone to record at 29fps is pretty good.
Next Good Point; this phones design is amazing and is a certain sight. Motorola went all out with this phones design.
Next Good Point; this phone has a good battery life and this phone can USB charge, some phones can’t do that, sad right, I know.
Next Good Point; well, it’s a quad band 2g phone with 3g but as I said before, the 3g can only work in Europe and some of those eastern countries.
It might have some more good things but I am not able to think of them now.
This a continuation of the review I did yesterday (february 13th, 2009)

To tell you the honest truth, this phone is semi-complicated; it’s slow and is a great disappointment. This phone can’t even handle more than 100 songs on the media player; it sticks, moves extremely slow through the songs and even freezes. Now speaking about media, isn’t this phone suppose to be a “Media Monster”, now what media wise phone can’t play wma, well at least it file shows up in the file manager, this is the stupid thing, instead of this phone saying that the file format is not supported, do wish to delete this file so something like that it asks you if you want to save it on the phone memory, like saving it on the phone memory is going to make a difference, it’s still now going to play. I tell ya, Motorola employees don’t use their brains.
Next problem; This phones flash does not turn on when recording video. Now although the video recording is great for a 2mp camera with its’ QVGA size and 29 fps we would really like to see what we are recording in the night. Really, why have flash and in can’t be used when recording video.
Next Problem; The screen scratches easily, why didn’t Motorola make this phone with a scratch resistant screen like its’ big brother the Motorola z10 which has its’ share of problems too; but I am not getting into that now.
Next Problem; Navigating this phone was a hassle and still is, I really needed one of those navigating systems to get through the phone the first couple of times. I always thought that Motorola had a very user-friendly and easy to navigate layout but when I got my z8 all of that went out the window. If only Motorola could’ve make their smart phones more easy to navigate.
Now I’m sure that there are many more problems with this phone but I just can’t think of them now.

Nikko, 02 Feb 2009I love this phone I even made a poem for it! Seriously.
... moreHardware wise I like this phone too...kick slider design is cool, good screen, "ok" buttons (not exactly good for heavy texters though).
However, call me naive, I simply can't get anything else out of the phone, and even wish it's being "non-smart" like my good old Z3.
For comparision, I also have both Moto V9 (along with 10 other Moto phones which I'm currently using), which I can easily change the softkeys, customize ringtone, create playlist, reorder the icons settings, set wallpapers (which supports most, if not all, the photos I downloaded / took through other devices)
I still haven't figured out how to manage all of the above with my Z8, which I bought in June.

I have been a Motorola user ever since High School. The z8 is pretty awesome depending on the user. Just needs some getting used to or if you're smart you won't need to be bothered on how to use it or things about its interface. Its design rocks. Its screen rocks.
Although, I wish the rubber thing that covered the memory card slot was the same with the one that covered the mini usb port.
