To the person who provided us the comprehensive review, thank you very much for sharing your experience on E8 with us.
I bought an E8...but the phone is not in my hands...that's because surprisingly, my wife wanted to get the E8 over a U9!
When I first saw the "real" phone about a month ago, my first impression was: the screen "looks" much bigger than the specs on paper suggests.
Agree with the comment that for those who complain much about Moto phones / E8, have they even owned / tried one?
To me, E8 is more like an MP3 player with a phone feature. Agree for mobile phone camera users need to look some place else.
I own an E2 and I have "never" taken any pics with my phone. I mean, why bother with the phone's cam when I've a Canon G9?

@kish
Thanks very much for your elaborated review. i was waiting for one such review from a user. from which part of world are you from.
i am from india and desperately waiting for this phone to launch here.
my lookout in a phone is similar to yours and so i think this phone would suit me well.
i have some querries and i will be glad if you can answer those.
1. subjectively how is the sound quality through headphones when compared to other music branded phones like the SE walkman and nokia expressmusic. how is the bass effects produced.
2. does the 3D surround and bass boost really make any difference in the sound output.
3. how helpful are the preset equalizers.
4. is the default headphones of any worth and does it require an immediate replacement.
5. was there any memory card bundled along with phone.
6. with 500 Mhz processor, i believe its interface speed will be equivalent to V8. can you please confirm.
7. can 2 java files be run at same time. this is one drawback of the motomagx software and i want to know whether this has been addressed in the new version.
i have been using moto phones for the last 3 years and i am quite familiar with them. the best thing i like about moto is the way it handles sms. it suits me best. i have tried nokia and SE in writing sms but i didnt quite liked it. the reason why i am specifying about sms is because i am a heavy sms user. i type (not forward) 20-30 sms on an average daily. The three things which i do in a phone is make calls, send sms and listen to call. camera is least important to me.

wixkskyr,
The construction and build quality is quite solid, the battery case is made of metal; i believe the side framing of the phone is at least re-inforced with a metal frame. However, I wouldnt not be game to throw this phone around.
I see no reason to believe that the touch pad would stop working after a few knocks; though I can't comment on the durablity of this phone until I have owned it for at least a year. It seems solid enough, but like all phones these days; handle with care.
lalaland,
Im sorry, next time ill keep my post to 2 sentaces as that would be a far greater help to prospective buyers. The only reason I made my post so long and somewhat detailed was because I could not find any such post from users prior to my purchase, just one liners like 'phone is good' (really helpful).

hey thanks kish, your a really big help as im going to buy this phone on saturday (yay!)
just a question: how durable do you think this phone is? as it has 1 plastic screen for the keypad, wouldn't the keypad completely stuff up if you dropped the phone nd ended up cracking the keyboard screen?

This phone is excellent. Im quite sick of reading peoples opinions on the phone who dont actually own the phone! The buttons are very easy to use; they are far easier to use than my previous phones buttons (nokia n76).
People that complain about messaging must be getting confused about a feature that the phone has, where it tries to learn your common words and predict whats next. A feature you can turn off as it can be annoying sometimes (requiring you delete an innacurate guesses).
Another thing to note is that the delete key for sms's is in a slightly odd place which is uncommon im sure to SE or Nokia users. The buttons dont actually press unless you apply a bit of pressure to them. They give a very small vibration for tactile feedback that resembles a button remarkebly well.
I can honestly say that the key pad on this phone is as easy as any other buttoned phone I have used before.
The screen is another common complaint. I hardly see why considering the resolution is standard (320 by 240) for about 99% of phones today. Yes the physical size maybe smaller, but the resolution is the same which means you see just as good quality a picture. In fact you even see a better quality picture as the pixels are smaller and everything is more fine. The screen is excellent, the fonts come out perfectly; detail is great, etc.
The scroll wheel is suprisngly good on this phone. It works well for scrolling through contacts and long lists of music. Its sensative to your finger acceleration and has the ability to auto scroll when you reach the end of the 2/3 wheel. The faster your finger movement, the quicker it will auto scroll.
The speaker on this phone is just average for playing music. This phone has excellent sound quality; labs tests have shown this phone to have sound quality on par with dedicated mp3 players and better than that of the walkman phone series. But dont think that good sound quality = great phone speakers. Like portable mp3 players; this phone is designed to be listened to with headphones.
Portable mp3 devices need GOOD headphones if you want to hear good sound. Just like with an ipod; you need to invest in a set of good headphones for real music enjoyment (im talking about headphones around 80-250 USD mark, not el cheapos or headphones that come with mp3 players).
If your not listening to this device with such quality headphones; then you really cant comment on the sound quality that phone outputs.
This phone has a terrible camera, if you want to take photos, then buy a real camera, or get a different phone.
The rokr E8 is a mp3 player / standard 'no nonesense' phone. The phone handles ALL of your standard phone features well (calls, contacts, SMS, Alarm, etc). It handles Mp3 playback exceptionally well, I would argue with good headphones, you dont need to buy a seperate mp3 player if you have this phone and your satisfied with 6GB (possible more havnt tried) of storage capacity.
I havent tried movie playback, its not high on my to do list either, I bought this phone to save me buying a dedicated mp3 player. I also bought this phone to replace the dreadful nokia n76.
I prefer this phone to the nokia n76 ten fold (as a point of refence to those who have one). The phone is very thin and sleek, its ugly in my eyes at all. Its a very unique phone that im sure very few will have. If you want an mp3 player / standard featured phone; then I doubt you will find many other phones that can match this.
if your after a phone that has many more bells and whistles, then look elsewhere; its not for you. One quick last note; this phone has a pretty nice theme in m y opinion; far, far better than anything else ive seen from moto. You can download themes and games and even apps to add to this phone. So if you can be bothered; im sure you can make it even more functinal or unique.
I would be happy to answer any questions from people who are keen on this phone and I give it a 9/10 for its intended purpose (i.e. make calls, send sms's, play music and turn heads)

Yes people it is a 2 inch 320X240 pixel screen. the same screen that you find in the E2 ROKR only is is on it's side. This screen has the best clarity I have ever seen in any phone.

@wixsksyr
The phone plays back music perfectly. Some reviews say it's better than a mp3 player & sound quality beats everything. Of course it should handle all this with the 500mhz cpu.
