Mr C Leeds UK, 26 Oct 2008I bought this phone at CPW in June 2008. it has been a bril... moreTruly agreed with your comments.

Regarding the battery, yes the standby & talktime's really good. I was using V8 before this phone and I must say the E8's battery outperformed the V8 anytime eventhough the specs sheet specified otherwise. Sometimes I wonder how they test talktimes of V8 - almost 8 hours and E8's 5 hours came about. Having practically used both phones, I would say the battery ratings should be the other way round, E8 - 8 or even more hours and V8's 5 hours. Personally I liked the designs for both E8 & V8, just that nowadays I prefer one hand operation instead so I went for E8. The V8's design is also nice and has an elegant feel.

About themes, initially when it's new, I was looking for things to "add-on" to make my unit special but after a while, it doesn't matter. Still maintaining the red ROKR wallpaper but I've added new themes (without changing the original wallpaper) by going to Settings, Option and Create Theme. Now I've got the original Onyx but it's now called Onyx (Modified) theme as I've changed the alert tones to my liking, Loud theme for noisy outdoor so that I can still hear it in noisy condition, Soft theme for quiet in door use and Sleeping Soft theme (for night time use) just in case phone calls or messages come in during sleeping hours that does not disturb my wife, you know the sudden normal "ring" in the middle of a quiet night that can gives you heart attack. All in all, 4 themes. I found that creating my own themes are somewhat better than looking around the internet for themes as I can customize them to my own preference, just need to spend a little bit of time to do it only once. If we don't like the original red ROKR wallpaper, we can always insert in any pictures we like into it. For alert tones, I've purchased a DVD on ringtones for mobile phones couple with some others from my Windows Mobile PDA phones and some from my own PC, you know there are some really short alert tones that comes with mixtures of low pitch and high pitch sounds. The low pitch types are really great for night time use instead of Bon Jovi's sudden jump to life in the middle of the night (LOL).

After having the E8 for more than a month now, I started to appreciate it even more so and most likely I'll keep it for some time. (Initially thought of changing to ZN5 but the plan now's been postponed indefinitely). The other missing features like 3G & high megapix cam are no issues to me, as the most important thing I look for in a phone is - a truly good communication tool and what it has been originally designed for... providing crystal clear voice communication, it's Crystal Talk technology.

Mr C Leeds UK, 26 Oct 2008I bought this phone at CPW in June 2008. it has been a bril... moreI agree w/ Leeds!
I just got this phone the other day because the
screen on the z525 I had before the ROKR went
blank- as in white- and never came back.
        .
        THE ROKR E8 IS PERFECT!
There are 4 different displays of the keys:
The first for menus, the second for music, the
third for the camera, and the fourth for dialing
        and texting.
        There are three input methods:
The first is the touch sensitive bar at the top
that reminds me of an iPod, the second is the
directional pad in the center, and the third is
the three controls on the left side.
The phone lights up really well and it's GORGEOUS!
When you're texting the phone remembers previous
words AND PHRASES to help you text more quickly.
One time I typed in "I want some" and it offered
"liquor" b/c I had written "I want some liquor" before! It was funny to me.
It's an AMAZING music phone! The sound is ULTRA clear
and LOUD. You can use your MP3s as RTs and you can
also use voice recordings as RTs, too. If someone
says the battery life is bad they're WRONG because
the battery life is AWESOME! (To help preserve it
just lock the phone using the button on the right
to turn all the backlighting off).
You can customize the main menu, the message menu,
and make your own themes for the phone.
        .
The only things I could see someone complaining
        about is:
+ it doesn't have "vibrate AND ring" it has
        "vibrate THEN ring"
+ u can only listen to FM with headphones IN
+ the music STOPS for incoming msgs & calls then
starts back (instead of just giving a little beep or
        vibrate AS the music plays)
        .
        I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PHONE!

I bought this phone at CPW in June 2008. it has been a brilliant phone and works perfectly well. It is basically a music player and that is its strength. The camera is not so good but not the reason I purchased the phone.

The music player and the thumb wheel for scrolling is superb. The way the keys transform to the relevant function is brilliant and they are even brighter in the sunlight. The radio is brilliant and reception is good.

The battery life is the best ever yet. I am amazed to see that review mags seem to have the battery life as poorer than the RAZR V8 because it is simply not true. I hammer the life out of this phone and can get up to 4 days from a full battery. I tend to charge every third day but will often allow it to drain completely.

Texting is a delight with Motorolas itap function. This is often useful as it will remember sentence structure making repeating similar texts a stroll in the park.

The only downside is that it comes with only one theme. As I have been unable to locate any other themes then it seems pointless offering it as an option in the menu system. However, the look is brilliant and modern. Menu system has new icons and is pretty easy to navigate. I am disappointed that you can no longer set personalised text alerts which is a shame.

All in all, another winner for Motorola. I love it.

BApe, 21 Oct 2008So why would anyone choose this over a N81 which has Wi-Fi,... moreThat's because not everybody is as wealthy as people like you who can afford N81!

E8 now runs about USD280 where I live (no contract, no lock)

Can you get a brand new N81 at the same (if not less) price as E8 as of Oct 2008?

However, for some others like my mom, instead of asking her to keep track of the battery meter, life maybe simpler to simply plug the phone back to the charger everyday.

Why would you charge your phone everyday? Its giving a life to the battery. I bet she can only go a day without having to charge her phone. Moto's work better if you wait until its almost dead. I can get 3 days off my year old battery.

i bought this phone about 5 days ago and now i am having "lag" problems. sometimes it does not respond the button you are pressing, and hopefully will in some 30 seconds "wew". now its in the motorola concept store in SM Mall of Asia for consultation. hopefully when i get it back, it will be good as new! :P but over the past 4 days of using it, i noticed that it has a very poor picture quality even if it has a 2 megapixel camera. maybe its because its built for music. and music alone lol. i would recommend this e8 for music enthusiasts out there!, very cool and loud speakers and very nice morphing keypads.
the bundled earphones are bad as hell! haha! when it is in full volume, the earphones sounded like "bad"! arrgh! but when i bought a new sennheiser earphones, it sounded so great! the 2 gigabyte of internal memory is also an added factor of this phone. you can store thousands of mp3 files even if you dont have a memory card! and the cool thing is, the memory of this phone can be upgraded to 10 GIGABYTE!, you just need to buy an 8 gig MICRO-SD memory card and you now have a 10 gig motorola rokr e8 to show off!, this phone is very stylish and classy. not recommended for people who have heavy fingers when pressing keypads, for this phone does not have a normal cellphone keypad but a touch sensitive one. a gentle press only and you are good to go. the battery life of this phone is very good. i tested its battery life when i am using the music player with the volume at full blast, and amazingly it lasted for about 10 hours continuous!

                                OVERALL= (after 5 days of use) = 8/10

Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970Currently my oldest Moto phones, considering the fact they still work, are P7389 and V60i. Though I think I'll keep them in my collection.

I did give away my Moto 388 (not c)...the first tri-band touch screen phone by Moto (if not among other brands!) to a Moto collector 2 years ago.

                                  I also sold V150, V188, and V375...for about US$25, which along with my E8, and a free W181, to get my A1600!

In my "collection", I still have A835, A1000, V600, E398...all of them are still working.

Will let u know if I'll have any Moto phone retire which I won't be keeping in my collection

Since then she had used C289, C300, V290, V180, V191, W510 (current), V3maxx (current)...all of them she charged the battery overnite everyday...not a single problem at all.

When you create playlist, make sure you specify the location of the songs whether in phone memory or in microSD card.In that way, the all the songs will be recognized. For the album art, I noticed that only songs that I manually edited (including pasting album cover) show their album art on the screen.
