i got this phone for my 17 year old son a few months ago. i've dropped it a few times, so has my son as we were mountain biking. IT STILL WORKS! all the bells and whistles are great if you want to pay for them. he likes his phone. he doesnt need all the ringtones. he has his mrobe mp3 player for music and it has a camera built into it. for video games, theres the internet and ps2. for video, theres hdtv. this is a great phone. i have to admit NET10 does need a better choice of phones. i like their service. by the way, i can afford to get a contract but choose not to. so its not a credit issue. i think NET10 is a great prepaid service and the v171 is a great phone.

And, yes, I also tried to download a different ringtone and couldn't. So I've totally changed my mind about how nice this phone is. It may be a great looking phone with a great rate plan, crystal clear sound and everything a phone should be but with only 20 ringtones installed I now want to kill myself. I'm going to take the next 2 weeks off work and investigate how to download ringtones, maybe write letters and whine and complain and try to get an act of congress passed declaring the entire phone a fraud. Or maybe I'll just kill myself.

What the is wrong with all you whiners? It's a PHONE. It doesn't make toast or transport you to other worlds or wax your car. It has a reasonable 10 cents a minute plan and when I dial a number it makes a phone call. Complaining about games and ringbones and screensavers, jeez. What in the world do you want a "screensaver" for. What a bunch of spoiled brats.

This phone is a piece of crap. The darn ringtones are dumb as he**. The screen is tiny and the colors look very dull. I got the phone for my bday and i thought i could download ringtones.... NOT. All you people that say the phone is good are freakin liers. Just admit it is a piece of junk. You should at least be able to download the ringtones and games from your phone. The three games suck. You cant even see the damn tetris lookin game. People try to send me text messages and i wont get them for a freakin hour or two. The signal always goes out on the piece crap. Ill dial the number and push call and the darn thing will just end the call after it has already taken my 1.0 minute. That is all kinds of bull. I buy 300 minutes and only get to use about half of them because of failed text messaging and dropped calls. The ringtones you can get our are dumb keytones. I gave up on trying to download ringtones and tryed to find the dang keypress tones on the internet and coudnt find any. This phone is a motordont.

I think this phone is great!!!!! It has , sleek design and for a cheap price. Very nice phone with basic features. I would recommend it to anyone, except to those who are looking for cameras, mp3 players and downloading ringtones on a phone. It has a small screen, i agree, but it doesn't bother me. Great phone!!!!

I think that you people need to get it straight that a cell phone is not used to download ringtones and screensavers. It's used as a source of communication, not to waste money on 15 seconds of sound sounds?!?!?! I think that net 10 as an EXCELENT plan, 10 cents a minute is great, my friend pays 25 cents a minute. So stop complaining about not bieng able to download rintones. If you want to download ringtones, then pay the freakin 25 cents a minute for it!!!

Bad phone; I had this with Net 10 for my son for about 3 weeks. Within one week, the antenna fell off. Before this happened, the service was horrible. I do not like the small screen or th edesign of it. I would NOT reccomend this phone.

it's a great gadget for communication. it brings brisk business for Moto in the developing countries. cheap and all the functions are designed base on the utility theory. what's a cellphone like? talking and messaging, that's all.

i love the 10 cents a minute now through net ten instead of the 25 or more i was paying through trak phone.but i think its a crap phone.i don't see why they wasted so much money making the screen and speaker so fantastuliffic!why bother?you can't download any cool ringtones or screen savers.so now what?the only cool screensaver is the one with the chics face on it,or is that what it is,who knows.i even tried to buy the crappy beeping piano tones they offer and those would not even come through.i get a text message an hour after someone sends it.but no ringtones come into the inbox or anywhere else.has been a month still no refund on the tones.at least three or 4 times a day i open my lid, screen is blue.have to turn it off then back on.then my phonebnook says try later.very unimpressive.to me its like buying a yugo with 4000 dollar spinning rims.why bother paying for the fancy stuff when it doesn't make the thing look or perform any better.says you can sms, internet ready all that.nope not available in my area, sorry.directions on package never mentioned anything about that.as far as these people saying shut up,stop whining pay a hundred bucks a month for a real phone.well dude sorry but maybe some folks aren't dealing crack like you and can't just piss away 100 bucks a month.i've got freinds that have generic phones from slightly different providers and they got cool ringtones and screen savers.
i just feel you can't get real support from motorola or net ten in getting help on the things that will, can ,and do go wrong with this phone.it was only 88 bucks so i'm happy i guess.i only bought it to use in emergency type situations, but now am realizing there are awesome tones available and thought the bravado boasted in the manual for this phones capabilities made it so great.but no can do.i'll keep it till a better, cheaper, useable phone comes along.and since phones and capabilities seem to get better and cheaper weekly.one will come along.till then.curse your v171 like i do and bear with it i guess.

i think it's a great fone and everything but some teenagers like me don't like to spend all their money on a freaking phone card. not only that but some teenagers like kool fones to go with the expensive bill that they get every month, i would at least like a big screen, not that little tiny one that goes w/ the v171! the people who aren't whining about it are old! i don't have credit! this is sopposed to b a fone 4 teenagers. v--rg-- (u know who) has 4 cents a minute!

I bought one for this reason: I HAD Cin--lar(you know who)sevice.I got sick and tired of paying 35 cents a minute for their service WHETHER or not anyone answered the phone..I STILL got time and money taken off.THIS was a ripoff.I figure at least if this is going to happen..it will only happen at 10 cents a shot.As for a camera not being on it(this phone)..I have a 14 meg digital camera for that(taking pix) ..that's what cameras are for.(ie:I didn't buy a camera to call people on.).I bought the phone not to hold major chat sessions on,but for contact, general use, etc.I have a home phone for which people can get ahold of me forthat purpose. As they say,you are getting what you are paying for;you are not being held by a major corp. to a 1-2 year contract w/ridiculous monthly bills and overage charges and if you run out of talk time that is YOUR fault.Good way for teens to learn money management(ONLY if you as a parent make sure you are making them pay for the phone-as you should.I personally think the phone works fine and fits my needs as an alternative to using pay phones and for emergency needs and travel.

I have this phone too with net10. the ring tones are like 1.49 just for a polly and you cant buy them with your minuts you have to use a credit/debit card or paypal. I have really bad credit so for the price of the phone, service, and cost of minuts Im really happy. I just wish the ringtones were more buyer friendly.
