I have been keen on this cell. However, I was put off by the quoted high SAR values of this cell both in earlier reviews as well as in other review sites (eg. cnet). So I decided to do a bit of my own R&D, and would like your take.
There are two separate standards for SAR. One is ICNIRP (followed by EU and UK), the other is IEEE/FCC (followed by US and Canada). Check pg 344 of the Mobile Antenna Systems Handbook available online at http://books.google.co.in/books?id=g9DvoOdAQIsC&pg=PA344&lpg=PA344&dq=sar+icnirp+fcc+comparison&source=web&ots=uEflNrPAbs&sig=LiNOhd0CXf41Ckr2DBGuzAEvPKg&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=10&ct=result#PPA344,M1
The IEEE/FCC is more onerous and stringent.
As per ICNIRP, the ZN5 has a SAR of only 0.51 against a max of 2. Refer page 50 of ZN5 UK user's guide at http://www.motorola.com/Hellomoto/Master%20Lists/Product%20Manuals/Static%20Files/GB-EN/ZN5_GSG_-_UK_English_.pdf
In comparison, SE models are way way higher on ICNIRP standard:
T700 - 1.55
k810 - 1.31, and of course the direct competition
C902 - 1.34
Arent they more dangerous?
ZN5 on FCC/IEEE standards is 1.54 on a maximum of 1.6. Refer page 42 of ZN5 US user's guide at https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/oet/forms/blobs/retrieve.cgi?attachment_id=962489&native_or_pdf=pdf
or at https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=432261&fcc_id=%27IHDT56JT2%27
My Question: Do you think the SE models would be safer on FCC standards? Believe me this might be my first non-SE cell, hence the research.

MazaMoto, 02 Jan 2009Hello to all & happy New year.... Have some Q's regardi... moreThe ZN5 is meant to withstand lots of punishment. In an expert test, it proved to survive falling from a 5 meter fall, a subzero stay in the fridge, a dip in water, and a crushing blow from a sedan. Aside from the broken screen, everything went fine.

Hello to all & happy New year....
Have some Q's regarding ZN5's Office futures. Can we install any 3'rd Party Mobile Office & PDF Viewer?
Also, how good will be its reliability. (As I am considering buying this phone & will be keeping it for atleast 2 years.. If it dont breaks falling down & due to rains..)

100 Moto, 02 Jan 2009Sorry, Zn5 can "not" be used in Japan. With regards to TIAT's post on the other site, I felt we both were "singled" out due to our FAIR support on Moto and not being braggy, I believe we must have done some good things for Moto brand in our early posts to trigger this kind of response from him. We can't assume anything, that he's from a Moto's competitor or really a Moto hater maybe being fired from his job in Motorola (LOL), but from the way he wrote and word his comments, he's really into provocation for reasons only known to him. I'm not going to fall into his trap by responding to his comments so from now on, no matter whatever he posts, I'll just treat them like bird's sing. Only sincere and positive individuals that really need assistance deserve our time and effort.
