Nab a Nokia 4G Lumia 635 for $189

22 June, 2014

The Nokia Lumia 635 is now available for sale at a fairly attractive price point: $189. So what do you get for your money?

For starters, it comes packed with Windows Phone 8.1 and everything that comes with it. This includes Cortana, Microsoft's digital personal assistant which functions similarly to Siri, or Google's Now service. The 635 also sports a 4.5" Gorilla Glass display, a quad-core, 1.2GHz processor, and the handset, in the Nokia tradition, comes in a variety of vibrant colors. You'll be able to snap on different shells if you ever get bored with the look of your device, or just want to change things up one day.

The biggest downside of the Lumia 635 is that it only packs 512MB of RAM. Now this might be enough for Windows Phone 8.1 to run rather smoothly, however, it limits the types of applications that can be installed on the handset. Some of the more graphics intensive games and apps won't be supported by the 635.

On the upside, the device is packing 4G LTE connectivity, which gives it a leg up on other phones in its class. For example, the Moto G costs around the same price as the Lumia 635, and has double the RAM, but is restricted to 3G data. If you want a Moto G with 4G, then you'll have to fork over $220.

If you're looking to get a Windows Phone on the cheap, then you may want to check out the Lumia 635. It's available throughout the EU and many parts of the Asian Pacific, and should be making its way stateside soon.

The counter-argument to that would be - 512mb is fine for the majority of WP users, and the Moto E can't do 4G.
