New Gallery Go app drops the “Go” name
As spotted by 9to5Google, the Gallery Go app appears to have dropped the “Go” part of its name with its new app icon. With version 1.8.8.436428459, the name of the app is just “Gallery” now.
Via 9to5GoogleGallery Go first launched in 2019 as a ‘Lite’ alternative to Google Photos for devices with limited hardware. As even budget devices catch up to have more RAM and CPU power, the demand for “Go” alternatives may have curbed a bit. It is also possible that Google may be trying to reach a wider audience with its no-frills Gallery app.
Earlier this month, it was announced that the YouTube Go app would be discontinued later this year. The standard YouTube app should see improvements for lower-end devices including more granular control for low-data consumers.

Judging from the number of things Google has discontinued I think you are extremely optimistic.
