New phones of the week
The deluge of new phone announcements continues in what used to be a slow season in our line of work. For the third week in a row, we have a whole bunch of new releases, spanning all market segments.
High up top, we have the Xiaomi Mi 8 - the company's commemorative 8th-anniversary handset. 6.21-inch notched AMOLED display, the latest Snapdragon 845, and a tricked out dual camera, what else can you ask for?
How about a transparent back and an under-display fingerprint scanner? That's where the Mi 8 Explorer edition comes in.
Less exclusive, but equally intriguing, the Mi 8 SE midranger is the first to employ Qualcomm's newest mid-tier Snapdragon 710 chip. A review unit would be much appreciated, Xiaomi.
Nokia updated a significant part of its portfolio for 2018, with .1 upgrades for the 2, 3, and 5 series. Those three we even spent some time with, so you can check that out if you've missed it.
Meizu rolled out an entry-level smartphone this week, the M6T. How smartphones have evolved, when entry-level means octa-core CPU, dual camera, and a trendy tall screen.
There's also that half of a new announcement coming from LG. Updates in the V-series have come in increments of 10, so it's not just us trying to be funny - LG is well aware that a chipset bump and a couple of minor camera changes don't really make a new phone, so now we have the V35 ThinQ.
