The new phones of week 30

Chip, 30 July 2017

The past seven days were exciting, bringing a bunch of new hardware – five different makers announced six smartphones, including a trio of flagships. And just to make sure you haven’t missed any of them – here’s the quick recap.

Motorola Moto Z2 Force

Motorola brought its Z2 Force to light – a true flagship built around a 5.5” OLED display of QHD resolution and a Snapdragon 835 chipset. It comes with a pair of 12MP cameras at the back (RGB+Monochrome) and runs on the latest available Android 7.1.1. RAM is 4GB, while storage is 64GB and there’s naturally support for Moto Mods for enhancing the functionality of the phone.

Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus

Next up is a duo that can really stand out in the crowd. The Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus come with secondary 2” OLED screens on their backs that allow you to read notifications, capture selfies with the primary camera and control your music player. The Pro 7 Plus is also the first smartphone to utilize the 10nm Helio X30 chipset, making it a really intriguing device.

Xiaomi Mi 5X

The Xiaomi Mi 5X specs sheet is not nearly as impressive as the devices so far, but the handset offers outstanding value for its modest price tag. Coming with a dual camera lifted straight from the Mi 6 flagship, a 5.5” 1080p screen and a Snapdragon 625 chipset, the 5X is expected to cost just $220.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Nxt

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Nxt is more of a refresh to the 2015 Galaxy J7 than an entirely new device. Still, it might be a welcome sight for those looking to get a decently performing phone with great battery life on a tight budget.

YU Yunique 2

Another entry-level device, the Yunique 2 comes with a modest MediaTek chipset and a 5” 720p screen. It will hardly get any geek’s pulse racing, but with a price tag of less than $100, it may be an excellent choice for more casual users.
