New Realme C53 unveiled in India with 108MP camera

The new Realme C53 is here – and when we say “new”, we mean different from the C53 that was announced at the end of May. What’s changed? The camera and the charging system is the short answer.

This version of the C53 is already available for pre-order in India from Realme’s online store. The base price for a 4/128GB unit is ₹10,000, there is a different 6/64GB configuration (more RAM, less storage) for ₹11,000 too. For comparison, a 6/64GB Realme C55 costs ₹12,000.

As early details showed, the new C53 features a 108MP main camera, replacing the 50MP camera of the original C53. Even the C55 has only a 64MP main cam. The extra resolution gives the new phone 3x in-sensor zoom.

Like the C55, there is no ultra wide camera on board. There is an 8MP selfie camera, though, in what Realme calls a “mini capsule” – the company’s take on the Dynamic Island UI. Note that this one is in a notch rather than a punch hole.

Moving on to the other new thing, the C55, old C53 and new C53 have 5,000mAh batteries. However, this one has slower charging at 18W, down from 33W. The rest is pretty much identical to what we saw back in May.

The new Realme C53 has a large 6.74” IPS LCD with 90Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution (20:9). It is powered by the Unisoc T612 chipset, which is less powerful than the Helio G88 found inside the C55.

We mentioned that the two configurations of the new model have a different balance of RAM and storage. Luckily, you can easily have more of both – you can add up to 6GB of virtual RAM and the triple card slot has room for two SIMs and a microSD (up to 2TB).

There is a USB-C 2.0 port on the bottom, a single loudspeaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone comes in at a hair under 8mm thick and, as you might have noticed, the rear panel has a new look. You can choose between Champion Gold and Champion Black.

Again, the Realme C53 for India is on pre-order, starting at ₹10,000. Sales will start on July 26 and will include Realme’s online store, Flipkart as well as brick and mortar stores.
