New Realme GT5 Pro leak details a change in camera sensors

The Realme GT5 Pro has been in the news a lot lately, which probably signifies the fact that its official announcement isn't far away. Today we have some intriguing information regarding its rear cameras, which comes from prolific Weibo leakster Digital Chat Station.

He now claims the GT5 Pro's three cameras will use the following sensors: the main one a Sony Lytia LYT808, the telephoto camera a 50 MP IMX890, and the ultrawide an OmniVision OV08D10.

The latter is surprising, considering the fact that, last week, the same source claimed the ultrawide would use Sony's IMX581. That's a 48 MP sensor, whereas the OV08D10 is an 8 MP sensor, that was previously used for the front-facing camera of the OnePlus Nord N20 SE.

That seems pretty low-end considering the other two cameras, so do take this with a healthy dose of salt. Then again, "flagship killer" style devices like Realme's GT series do sometimes very much enjoy going with 8 MP ultrawides to save costs, so we can't rule it out completely just yet. It's just weird going from 48 MP to 8 MP in the space of a week, though we are of course still very much in rumorland.

Now, the main camera - if this new rumor is correct, the Realme GT5 Pro and the OnePlus Open will have the same Sony Lytia LYT808 sensor, which is a 1/1.43-type sensor with 53 MP effective resolution (which could be marketed as 50 MP). This sensor is the first of an expansive new Lytia line from Sony. These are two-layer transistor pixel stacked sensors which should let in more light at the same size compared to their IMX predecessors.

Last week's rumor regarding the GT5 Pro's cameras pegged the IMX966 as the one behind the main camera, so again, don't jump to any conclusions just yet. Perhaps Realme is sending out conflicting information just to mess with us. Either way, it looks like the GT5 Pro will be made official within the next few weeks, and then we'll know which rumor turned out to be right (if any).
