New Realme GT5 Pro teaser details USB 3.2 port and up to 1TB storage

Victor, 02 December 2023

The Realme GT 5 Pro flagship is just around the corner, with an unveiling set for December 7. Realme has been going a bit crazy with all of the teasers to drum up hype around the upcoming flagship. Most recently, the company dropped a pretty revealing video teaser, showing off the internals of the new 50MP, 3x, Sony IMX890 periscope telephoto camera and a vegan leather back panel for the phone.

A new set of teaser images has now dropped. One of these shows the phone is an alternative Starry Night color with what seems to be a more traditional, non-leather back panel surface. The other teaser image reveals that the phone will be offered with up to 1TB of internal storage and will also feature USB 3.2 connectivity.

Unfortunately, the current state of USB naming is an unmitigated disaster, and we really wish Realme had used the new marketing-friendly name to refer to the USB connection, which would have revealed the actual speed of the data link. The poster also mentions that the data ling should be 10 times faster than a USB 2.0 one, so an educated guess here would be that Realme is using a 5Gbps controller, also known as a USB 3.2 Gen 1x1 or USB 3.1 Gen 1 or USB 3.0.

Going over some of the rest of the expected Realme GT5 Pro specs, we believe it will be rocking a 6.78-inch, slightly curved 8T LTPO AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate and “1.5K” resolution (likely the same 1,240 x 2,772px as the GT5). It has a peak local brightness of 4,500 nits and a peak global brightness of 1,600 nits. There are both DC dimming and 2,160Hz high frequency PWM dimming for dialing that down, which can create 20,000 brightness levels. The display also has a touch sampling frequency of 2,160Hz.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset will power the GT5 Pro, and thanks to a retailer mix-up, we know that the phone will cost CNY 3,500. That converts to $500/€450/₹42,000. Of course, that is without accounting for local taxes and such.

Apart from that, using USB Type C 3.2 in modern smartphones still, is enough to prove that technology hasn't changed at all since 2017
