Apple makes its self repair diagnostic tool available in Europe

Peter, 26 June 2024

Late last year Apple gave users in the US access to a very important tool for self repair, the Self Service Repair Diagnostics software. Now this software is expanding to 32 European countries (and it’s coming to Canada sometime soon).

This software will help you diagnose and troubleshoot faulty or broken components on one product while running on a second Apple device. It will guide you through the process with on-screen prompts. When it’s done, you will know if there is anything actually broken and what parts you need to order to repair the device.

Okay, you yourself might not have the skills to swap out the broken parts with new ones, but at least this will confirm that something is indeed broken and needs to be fixed. This tool is invaluable for unlicensed repair shops as well, which you might choose over a licensed Apple repair center. Apple allows individuals and third-party shops to repair iPhones with genuine parts (and have a service that helps them verify that the parts are indeed genuine).

It’s not just iPhones, the Self Service Repair Diagnostics tool can also examine Macs and Studio displays. It is now available in 33 countries and 24 languages.

The Self Service Repair program offers access to genuine parts and tools as well as manuals for 42 Apple products. As of recently, this also includes new MacBook Airs with M3 chips. These are the same parts, tools and manuals that are used by staff at Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers. You can learn more over on the official site.
