HTC One ME9 launch in India approaching

15 May, 2015

We reported a few days ago on HTC's yet another top-specced device of the One M9 generation and at the time it was known as the M9e. As it turns out, the smartphone is more likely going to be called One ME9 and it's also expected to be launched in India sooner rather than later.

Indication of that comes from an import listing, which states that 1400 dummy units have entered the country on May 8. That should mean that display shelves need to be stocked, hinting at the phone's imminent release. The listing shows two separate entries with different numbers, presumably for two different color options.

By the looks of it, the One ME9 is meant to be a more affordable version of the 5.2-inch One M9+, with a few changes introduced to lower the price. Perhaps the most notable one is the polycarbonate back cover which has replaced the metal unibody. The second camera on the back has also been sacrificed, but the main 20MP unit is retained.

Other than that it's more or less the same phone with a 5.2-inch QHD display, Mediatek MT6795 chipset and 3GB of RAM.

The exact pricing of the HTC One ME9 is yet unknown, as is the release date for the Indian market. So far it's unclear what other parts of the world will get it either, but don't be surprised if it never leaves Asia.
