Motorola Razr 40 Ultra / Razr+ makes its way through bend test with a surprise result

Vlad, 20 July 2023

Last month Motorola made the Razr 40 Ultra foldable smartphone official for international markets, and the same device is being marketed in the US as the Razr+. It's one and the same, so when Zack from the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel performs his trademark durability test on a Razr+, know that if you aren't in North America what you're seeing applies to the Razr 40 Ultra as well.

Now that we got that necessary bit of clarification out of the way (thanks, Motorola!), let's get right to it. As usual, Zack subjects the smartphone to a series of tests - screen scratching, screen burning, and of course, the one you're all here for - the bend test.

We have to say, this isn't the first time we've seen a smartphone fail a bend test, but it's the first time we've seen one fail it in this particular way. Kudos to Motorola for doing it creatively?

In case you aren't able to watch the video, here's what happens. When bent, it's not the main, flexible screen that gives in. Rather, the outer screen's Gorilla Glass Victus shatters. That's... not something that should happen, we assume?

Do however keep in mind that this is a pretty extreme way of "using" a phone, so it's quite likely something like this will never happen to you. Aside from the bend test, it was all normal - the screens both scratch when they should, and they react to an open flame as one would expect.

If you're interested in the Razr 40 Ultra / Razr+ and what it's like when it isn't subjected to such torture, take a look at our in-depth review.

survived fine in a new jerry video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C-H7Unad1w

An extra battery compartment in these foldable devices is a no brainer and more environmental friendly as this prelonges the devices life span.
