02 Nov, 2004

At the annual Nokia Mobility Conference in Monaco and the Destination Nokia event held in Bangkok, Thailand, Nokia today announced the release of three new models: the long-expected Nokia 7710 widescreen multimedia smartphone with pen input, Nokia 6020 camera phone in the mid-range portfolio and Nokia 3230 megapixel camera phone.

After all the rumours within the last few months, Nokia formally introduced the 7710, a powerful multimedia smartphone that runs on the Series 90 software and is also the first Nokia handset that works under this software platform, since Nokia 7700 didn't come out. The variety of aplications and it's functionality are indisputable. Nokia 7710 has a wide and high-quality touch screen with 65,536 colours, a full Internet browser, an integrated music player with stereo audio, an extensive set of video features such as playback, streaming and recording, a megapixel camera with 2-x digital zoom and FM radio with Visual Radio client. The model works on GSM/GPRS/EGPRS 900/1800/1900 networks, with shipments in Asia and China planned to begin in the fourth quarter, 2004 and in Europe and Africa in the first quarter, 2005.

Nokia 7710 has support for push email based on Smartner solution, VPN client, free user memory of up to 90 MB plus 128 MB on the included MultiMediaCard (MMC), as well as a full complement of personal information management features, an on-screen keyboard and handwriting recognition. The connectivity options for the Nokia 7710 include a Pop-Port(TM) connector with USB and Bluetooth wireless technology for easy data transfer and PC synchronization.

"The ability to consume, share and create media as well as using the extensive smartphone features - all on a fantastic display - makes the Nokia 7710 a compelling mobile multimedia device", said Richard Sharp, Vice President, Rich Media, Nokia. "The wide touch screen makes using applications, such as the Time Out Mobile City Guide, World Mate and personal publishing, a very enjoyable experience."

The Nokia 7710 also takes weblogging mobile. With the moblog client, bloggers can upload images and text to their personal blog. The PhotoBase and drawing board applications offer the user versatile image editing functionalities such as crop, zoom, rotate and flip. The smartphone will feature several mobile media applications and services, such as Visual Radio, which provides a richly interactive information channel to enhance the FM broadcast experience and a preinstalled eBook reader. The Nokia 7710 will also support the Nokia Streamer SU-22 accessory, which will be used in DVB-H mobile TV pilots in a variety of countries around the world.

Nokia also revealed the 6020 camera phone. With a subtle, practical and a bit non-typical design, Nokia 6020 fits in the mid-range portfolio of the company. The model features a broad set of contemporary technologies for personal and business demands. The tri-band Nokia 6020 will be available in two versions: an EGSM 900 GSM 1800/1900 primarily targeted for European and Asian markets, and the GSM 850/ 1800/1900 version for the Americas. Shipments of the Nokia 6020 are expected to start in the first quarter of 2005, the price will be around 200 euro.

An inovative function is the ability to send a flash-message that directly appears on the display of the other person's phone. Nokia 6020 has a VGA camera, push to talk technology, synchronization of a calendar and contacts. Presence-enhanced contacts informs users about availability and whereabouts if the people are unable to respond to calls or text messages. The model also has a voice activated dialing, EDGE connectivity, integrated xHTML browser (optimized for color pictures and video clips) and Java technology. In a classic design, available in the color variants graphite grey and silver grey, the Nokia 6020 offers up to 3 hours of talk time and up to 14 days of standby time.

Nokia 3230 is the third model introduced at the Annual Nokia Mobility Conference. Featuring a megapixel camera with video recording and editing, the Nokia 3230 provides modern mobile phone users with an innovative and feature-rich tool for creative communication, sharing and self-expression. Based on the Series 60 platform, the Nokia 3230 is a tri-band camera phone for GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800/1900 networks. Shipments are expected to begin during the first quarter of 2005 in Europe and Asia, the price is expected to be around 350 euro.

In a contemporary design, the Nokia 3230 offers a large color screen with 65,536 colors and an in-built 1.3 megapixel camera sensor, effective resolution 1.23 megapixel, Movie Director (application for adding special effects to video clips), expandable memory with a hot-swappable memory card, Bluetooth, MMS, chat and Instant Messaging, xHTML and HTML browser, push to talk with dedicated key, presence enhanced phonebook, stereo FM radio, MP3 player and Visual Radio.
