Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 dummy units pose for a photoshoot

Vlad, 21 June 2024

Dummy units for Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 have today posed for a rather extensive photoshoot, which lets us look at them from pretty much all angles. It's not like we haven't seen the Fold6 and Flip6 before, but an extra perspective is always welcome, and these dummy units provide us with just that.

Or maybe they're prototypes. The source of these shots continuously uses "dummy units" and "prototypes" interchangeably like they're synonyms. They're not. Dummy units are devoid of innards and accurately reflect the final product (that's the whole point of their existence after all), while prototypes certainly do have their innards, but are subject to changes and improvements across the development cycle. Since the source of these images is so confused, we can't be sure what we're looking at either.

If these are dummy units that means the design should be what we see in the final products. If they're prototypes, it would have been helpful to know what stage in the development cycle these were made at - the later they come, the more similar they should be to the final products.

Anyway, the designs showed here are nothing surprising for Samsung foldable devices, the Korean company definitely doesn't seem willing to make any major changes to this line. That makes the designs feel rather boring, but the upside (for Samsung at least) is that they're also very recognizable, since it's been using the same design language for a few years now.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 are expected to become official on July 10 in Paris at Samsung's next Unpacked event, alongside the Galaxy Watch7, Galaxy Watch Ultra, and Galaxy Buds 3.
