Honor introduces AI-based Defocus Eye Protection and Deepfake Detection at MWC Shanghai

Sagar, 26 June 2024

At the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Shanghai, technology brand Honor introduced two new on-device AI-based innovations: AI Defocus Eye Protection and AI Deepfake Detection.

Honor unveiled the AI Defocus Eye Protection tech in light of the increase in Myopia (nearsightedness) caused by long-term screen usage. The tech uses AI to simulate defocus glasses on the smart device's display. That's because these glasses induce controlled defocus in the user's peripheral visual field to help maintain clear central vision. This creates an altered visual perception that slows down the eye elongation process, leading to nearsightedness.

Honor claims its AI Defocus Eye Protection tech decreased users' transient Myopia by 13° on average after reading for 25 minutes, with some users even experiencing a maximum reduction of 75°.

Talking about AI Deepfake Detection, Honor says this tech will help prevent fraud and detect digitally manipulated content. It will be done by examining frame-by-frame generated content such as eye contact, image clarity, lighting, and video playback to identify flaws indiscernible to human eyes.

Honor also said that its AI Deepfake Detection tech had been trained through a large dataset of images and videos related to online scams, allowing the AI to perform identification, screening, and comparison within three seconds.

If manipulated content is detected by AI Deepfake Detection, a risk warning immediately pops up to deter the user from continuing to engage with who could be a potential scammer.

People cheap out using AI for content creation rather than real artists. But the content created by AI is unoriginal and flawed. And the only way to fix that is more data from real artists. You still need to pay real artists to do the job in the e...
