luisinhoens90, 08 Nov 2014This would be good in order to have competition as Telcel (... moreIusacell has been switching to GSM for a couple of years now, with their CDMA network being phased out. They were even the first carrier in México to market a "4G" network, which in reality is an HSPA+ network.

As a matter of fact, their CDMA network is being phased out, they no longer activate CDMA phones for the same reason. They are still in the process of completely switching to HSPA+ and even their new prepaid packages are not compatible with CDMA phones active on their network, only GSM phones are compatible with these packages across both their brands, Unefon and Iusacell.

This would be good in order to have competition as Telcel (America Móvil) is a monopoly in Mexico that holds around two thirds of Mexican user base. If the roaming free charges are cleared out too for Mexican customers who travel to the US then I'm all in to change my carrier choice.
PS. I'm just wondering how is At&T supposed to handle Iusacell's current network, as far as I know this company is using CDMA networks rather than AT&T's GSM.
