Anonymous, 26 Nov 2014Tablet will never replace the functions of a laptop, tablet... moreNot all, but some basic functions, certainly, why not? I use my tablet for basic coding, for composing a text, for sending emails, seeing movies, keeping notes. Now all those are what laptops do but IMO do as well, and some of them better. So yeah, for less than heavy use my tablet is ideal. For heavy use I prefer my 12-threaded, 24gb-ram monster of a pc. My laptop gets less use than either (less powerful than my pc, less portable than my tablet).

I think tablets are hitting the "powerful enough" phase. I have a US$100 tablet and honestly after all the crap I read about mediatek processors I was surprised by how capable it was. It even runs ashphalt 8, the only game that I tried that lags is minion rush. Even the 4.2 android os is fine since most of the apps work with 4.2 and the google apps get updated separately anyway. The only part of the tablet I would gladly pay more for is the screen. I don't even need ridiculous resolution(those just require bigger battery and overpowered graphics), I just want good viewing angles/colour.

Anonymous, 26 Nov 2014Sales tell this story. Most people prefer their phones for ... moreYup, but demand and supply are not fully in anyone's control.

In the end, the markets will decide as to the usefulness of tablets.

I don't know for the rest of the world but ipads aren't that expensive here in Europe that the one cannot afford one.
At least you have a possibility to pay it monthly ( just like I did) 69€ per ten months. And its worth every cents! Because I always resell my old one before getting a new one so new one cost only the half of price.

iPads are not as versatile as other tablets. It's about time Apple should include other useful features, such as allowing voice calls and SMS in iPads, providing an expandable memory slot (otherwise, start with 32GB and stop producing 16GB as starters), making USB for file (photos and videos) transfers, and more free downloads.

There is a small niche of people who prefer their tablets for that, but by at large most use phones. There is a reason why tablets are projected to crash in the relatively short term.

Either they have to find a new identity (which was already partly created by the net bookspace which they mostly replaced) or face the consequences from their phone bretherin. Simple as that.

Apples vision was great for 2010, it had to evolve from that, it didn't . Tablets remain as much a toy as ever. Owning a Note tablet showed me how things could be different. Unfortunately Note is made from Samsung so the design of many things is clunky at best. But imagine a "just works" philosophy in an ultra portable created for content creation as much as consumption. And don't tell me that Laptops are for that. Laptops are much bigger and less portable than tablets...

What happens when you add a new Song or a new Video? How to sync? How if duplicated? What if drop in toilet bowl? .. blah blah blah.. who bothers?

==> You try streaming 2K video over a mobile connection man, i'd love to see you try.. and by the way, Android supports a LOT more streaming protocols (out of the box, unlike Apple) so get your facts straight before you start acting like a big guy here..
Also, drag and drop is still the easiest and fastest solution to get data on your tablet, as network connection speeds are still nowhere near a USB3 connection (oh yeah, the iPad doesn't have that.....)

iPad excels with streaming, Android excels with local playback. ==> WRONG, read above

When i use Android, of course those 64gb list of songs and video are important.. because there is nothing to play on android.. only can watch pirated korean drama and bad 8bit games and emulators.

==> What rock have you been living under man, that has changed years ago..... go act like a fanboy somewhere else, it's not appreciated..

Then switched to iPad 4.. Then sold my iPad 4 coz it's way too heavy for an iPad mini 1. Then tried Xperia z tablet because it is waterproof. Guess what? I've forgotten all about iPad! Plus the fact that I can no longer connect my iPad mini to wifi when I'm about 6 meters away from the router is depressing. I used to be one of the users who often said that tablet is for iPad only but now I say that iPad is just like the rest of the tablets.. They all have they're pros and cons.

Just use BSPlayer / StreamToMe / GoodPlayer. Keep your data safe at house.

Mobile plan usage with above is less then 2GB per month.. unless you live in third world country with bad network.. nothing to say.

On iPad storage is mainly games and apps, media are all external streamed on demand.

I'd rather go for a nexus 7 than any apple tablets. Syncing your devices is pretty annoying. Only thing i love apple is their iPod's. I own a shuffle and a nano. If only android device manufacturers build a music player like that it would be great! And i never bought my ipods in brand new. Still lucky to get an almost brand new used ipod. :D

I guess an old tablet is just as useful as a new one. So why would anyone want to buy a new one. As applexpected new tablets are basically the same.

Anonymous, 26 Nov 2014Tablets as Apple envisioned them are just not very useful. ... moreAmazing how self assured keyboard analysts are, simply stating their opinion, which MUST be right in opposition to the mountain of evidence in front of them.

I wonder where this trait of denial came from.

Tablets are a different category of gadget, which some use to replace a laptop, and some don't.

Are you going to criticise smartphones because they don't work as DSLR replacements? Think about your analysis before putting it out there.

Smartphones can replace cameras, such as point and shoots, for casual use. Professional photographers however, may not consider smartphones as suitable camera replacements. Now, what sweeping statement will you use for smartphones?

                                      Now, think again about tablets.

Android is just a simple drag n drop. on an Ipad u need to use Itunes, and u dont have the freedom to go someone elses computer to load anything. worry of syncing n removing everything. such useless crap.
