Even at that time Apple gave samsung the specifications it wanted for the soc. Samsung manufactured it. So my using the word 'designed' might be inaccurate. But they were not using 'carbon copy' as you claim either. If you do a little research you will notice that those SoCs meant for apple were being used ONLY by apple devices.

Everyone either uses ARM cores: either as is (samsung) or they modify it (qualcomm calls it krait and apple calls them swift/cyclone)
I have a feeling you just want to keep the topic to 'hate apple' than about the techinicals.. So well i won't bother to try and explain more.

And it's out of context because of fans.
And obviously I'm correcting you.
They only in the past couple designs have made their own more unique modification to arm cores.
Prior to that they would have samsung manufacture less modified cores that were very identical to samsung own designs. Practically the same chip.

People don't seem to be aware of what they are talking about. As of present day samsung does NOT have its own cpu cores nor gpu. (which this article is about)
Exynos uses cores A7/A15 licensed from ARM (unlike Qualcomm SD and Apple). As the article says samsung haven't yet gotten around to making their own cpu though there were rumors of it.
Similarly samsung as of today licenses the gpu from ARM/imagination. And this article is regarding rumors of them making their own gpu too.

Apple has been designing (modifying arm lisenced tech) since as early as iphone. Samsung has just been manufacturing them for apple. I'm talking only about thw SoC as that is what the news is about.
Otherwise everyone knows most stuff for most phones come from 3rd party manufacturers..

how is a company like samsung magically produce a GPU? it's not like you can stick series of steamed rice together to make one; it's some serious work involved.

Sometimes even battery life despite the other claims.
plus it was really only during s600 and s800 that the snapdragon chip had an advantage. Prior to that exynos variants were definitely above. Even the s1s hummingbird was the exynos before branded as exynos. it was tge biggest powerhorse around.
Although Nokia had a dual core then which most people did not know.

Anonymous, 02 Dec 2014You do know that Samsung only manufactures the pricessors w... moreApple more over designed the last 2 maybe 3 set ups of the soc. That's it. Every year before that it was practically a carbon copy of a samsung chip. And they don't design the rest of the Samsung parts they used before that.
and tmsc took a bigger work load this year alone.
Same as almost every other part they use of other companies is not some magical self built design.
You must be really hurt bringing up apple.

One thing about samsung is it evolves itself.
For a company which started as rice mill is major leader in smartphones and harware is an enormous effort.
We, have the habit of undermining the efforts of how these companies became big in the first place.
For people who accuse of Samsung copying please check who else had the courage to take bended screens from concept to reality.
Even apple has turned back to Samsung for its chips as taiwan manufacturer does not have the supply chain as samsung's.
The company might be going to bad patch, but there is no better phone than Note4 currently.
