I can see this beast being quite hungry, it would better serve a tablet rather than a phone, Nvidia should concentrate on tablets and perfecting them.
Some bespoke games for that chip, I know they're into having something special that only their chips can run, Tegra3 had it, Physx on PC, certain shaders only work on PC with nvidia cards, stereoscopic 3D works much better on nvidia, splashtop only works full screen with nvidia cards.

" Now to be clear here these are just GPU power measurements and not total platform power measurements, so this won’t account for CPU differences (e.g. A57 versus Enhanced Cyclone) or the power impact of LPDDR4."
In real life A8X might still be better than X1 per watt overall.

Wow! This GPU is a monster. According to Anandtech, X1 GPU gives 63.6fps in 1080p Manhattan test. That is double of the current chart-toppers - Apple A8X GPU (32.6fps) and Tegra K1 (31.7fps). Qualcomm's Top-end Adreno 420 maxes out at 18.5fps and the forthcoming Adreno 430 is expected to give 24-25fps. So Nvidia has a HUGE lead over its competition.
As far as the power consumption goes, Maxwell is a really energy-efficient architecture and in Anandtech's tests, Tegra X1 consumes only 55-60% power consumed by Apple's chip, if it is downclocked to match the latter's performance.
The GPU exploys 2 SMX (128 cores each). I could see Nvidia making a mid-range chip with 1 SMX which would give about half the performance and still will be able to trade blows with Apple and Qualcomm solutions. This chip could be ideal for devices of 5-6" screen size, whereas the Tegra X1 could power tablets and All-In-One PCs.

A8X also achieves 1 TFLOP at 16 bit floating point operations at 4.5W TDP.
X1 is already obsolete!

NVIDIA is being economical with the truth..
The 1 terraflop figure is for 16 bit floating point number.. Half precision.. The actual single precision figures would be around 400 gigaflops (256 ALUs, 2 flops per clock per ALU, assuming 800 MHz peak GPU clockrate)..
And to the ones saying 25.6 GB/s is too much, Snapdragon 805 and Apple Ax chips are already doing it
