"Real techies buy stuff based on their own needs, the usability of the product and how much value it delivers which is why Android has 80% market share in the real smartphone user community. iOS doesn't even properly qualify as a smartphone OS by today's standards. People who really "need" smartphones have no real choice in the market currently except Android.
iPhones are usually bought by the wannabes. Majority of iPhone community is filled with users who barely use their iPhone for making calls and texting (and maybe a few of them use Facebook and twitter as well) and want to pretend that they are techies or that they are rich enough to throw money on a gadget that they really don't have any need for.
This sort of market is not by any means a coincidence. Steve Jobs strived to build it and collect users who will not nitpick about lack of functionality and will gladly spend a premium every year to get half arsed products. When some guy put a sample app that does absolutely noting and put into the Apple app store at $999, 10 people bought it bought it was pulled out by Apple. That alone proves the kind of market Apple managed to build up. It is a dream market of every business entity. "

It's a "best" that is affordable to many, many people. Who wouldn't like a Bugatti Veyron? Or a F35 fighter plane? I know I do, but from those things I can afford only the iPhone 6.

phone call is a feature and represents lets say 1% of what an iphone can do
phone call on an android represents a 0.00001% of what phone can do
so iphone is the used better because you use 7$ of 700$ what you paid
on an android you use 0.006% of 600$

Most of my siblings in Vietnam have iphones because they obsessed with the Apple brand. They don't even know how to use it. They spend $700-1000 dollars for phone call only, lol. They use prepaid 2g simcard even though the phone is 4g ready.
