Three reasons why this is happening:
        1) Nobody with an iPad 4 will consider buying a new tablet in two years.
        2) People finally realise Gaming, video playback, content creation/editing, and reading are better off on other platforms and/or mediums.
        3) Phablets are getting big enough 5o be a tablet substitute (not everyone mind cause I'd rather surf the web on my iPad).

I think tablets have become less necessary as ultrabooks, and laptops with detachable screens entered the scene. I see these devices as the evolution of the tablet.

That's so sad. Unlike smartphones tablets are a revolutionary device. Not as bulky as laptops , not as useless for reading as smartphones. It was one of the best devices to get people reading. But as Steve Jobs called it "people don't read".

No wonder tablets are suffering they're the tool of the intelligentsia and most people are not very intelligent. They rather take a bulky laptop to read in bed, or worse yet read on their smartphones. The comments on this thread is typical of how technology is consumed (frivolously).

If he really knows he would have make cheap devices for middle & poor people.
Zuckerberg is better than him facebook for everyone. Facebook app is available in below 15 dollars phone. I saw some people using it & I too used when my smartphone was damaged.

People do not change their tablet as often as phone & the phablet become bigger & bigger in screen size, eg i had a Mega 6.3 which can be both phone & tablet, why would i need another 7" tablet?

Hopefully people start realizing they are wasting their time tapping on stupid tablets and get to spend more time in fresh air.

But for toddlers they are perfect for simple games or pacifying films during a drive.

People finally understood tablets are nothing more than toys. And if you intend to do real work you need real computer (laptop/PC).

Anonymous, 03 Feb 2015Good. People are finally getting how useless those gadgets are.More like people dont need to change tablet every so often. Ipad 2 for instance runs ios 8 atm and can do web browsing/messeging/light gaming as good as the ipad air 2. My asus nexus 7 2012 with 3g runs lollipop and is plenty fast (after using f2fs) so I dont see a reason to upgrade it. Unless they put more features instead of doing spec upgrades its going to be this way.

When iPad first come out, its joked as a giant iPod. But in the end, a market segment opens and tons of companies realise this, and the rise of tablets begin.

Now, tablets stabilised. Anyone who miss that chance is know regretting.

Now its the rise of smart watches. Mark my words, better jump on the new bandwagon before its too late.

Tablets have a much longer usage life than smartphones. Most people don't buy a tablet on a yearly basis, so it's not really surprising.

Sales reached market saturation point, so shipments have plateaued or fallen. It will rise and fall again in waves.
