It's more like people who bought the ipads are so satisfied with their products, they don't need to upgrade to a newer ipad. Android tablets sold are mostly low-end specifications and not much future updates, so android users don't have much choice to upgrade every 2 years max. It was only in 2013-2014 that Android had flagship tablets (nexus 7, Tab S) worthy of keeping it for a longer period of time. Unfortunately, the cheap tablets, such as Tab 4s, are taking most of the sales, which means that in the near future, they will have to buy new tablets.

"The iPhone 6 products are putting pressure on the iPad Mini and the continued success of the Mac could be inhibiting some iPad Air 2 growth" said Eric Smith, a Senior Analyst in the Tablet Service.

Now we know why iphone 6 & 6 plus sold 74.5 Millions...it is not just some android users ,some ipad mini & ipad air 2 users are ALSO migrating to iphone 6 & 6 plus because of big screens hence record sales.. no big deal
BTW note that apple tablet sales are dipping and android tablet sales are slowly increasing.
