The description of SD425 is fake, im using it now but its Quadcore and has an Adreno 308 GPU

Properly applying the 620 to a compatible display and hardware set can make it perform on a par with the 801 and the 808.

AnonD-354781, 18 Feb 201528nm fabrication? No, thanks. Seems more like a regression to me.That's my concern as well, yes the processor is as fast as the 810 an may perform on par with it, but the power consumption is a little higher leading to a shorter battery life

either way, it'll be nice to see how the Mid Rangers perfom with what we have now

AnonD-328637, 18 Feb 2015So 620 is equal to 810 in CPU performance.holy f**king sh*t... morei think they will not put that much power core A72. The reason for big.LITTLE is for power efficiency. They will put more small core for balancing.

The first S4 Krait cores were the S4 Plus, S4 Pro, QSD 400, QSD 600 variants. The performed much better than the Cortex A9's, little worse than Cortex A15, but used much less power. These were ahead of the competition leaving in the dust Apple, Exynos, nVidia, and MediaTek.

The second generation of Krait cores came, the QSD 800, 801. These provided a much greater performance over the A15 at the same power envelope as the previous QSD. Apple actually narrowly surpassed Qualcomm, leaving in the dust Exynos, nVidia and MediaTek.

A third-gen of Krait cores came, the QSD 805.
This was a minor upgrade, as it provided more performance than the QSD 801 but demanded more power. Here, it was eclipsed by the latest Apple cores, yet still ahead of the competition.

The QSD 805/Krait 450 is slower than the Cortex A57 and uses more power. So its natural for Qualcomm to use it for their QSD 810... however the chip is faulty with some clear thermal and throttling issues. And because of these issues, the QSD 810 is actually on-par with the QSD 801.

The ARM Cortex A57 has recently been surpassed by the Cortex A72. They're very similar but the A72 performs ~15% faster on same clockspeed and same (nm) fab size.

On the other end of the spectrum is the ARM Cortex A53, and that is the best chip ARM designs. Has the most performance, at the least power. However, it can't be clocked very high and has a smaller cache compared to the A57 and A72.

Which is why the QSD 615 is such a great package.
          2x A53 (high-performance) + 2x A53 (power efficient).
And why the QSD 615, a mid-range chip, can almost compete against the high-end chip of QSD 800. Almost.

However, that's smoked by the new QSD 620.
2x A72 (performance) + 4x A53 (efficiency). This new chip should actually slightly surpass the performance of the QSD 801 and use slightly less power. It will still get eclipsed by the QSD 805, but its a very balanced chip (as long as its not faulty).

So the QSD 620 (at 16nm) is actually BETTER than the QSD 810 (at 20nm). And both are Qualcomm's newest chips, one is for the high-end the other is mid-range. The mid-range is better AND cheaper. Isn't that ironic.

The 810 is just now making its way on to actual production devices and the new 14nm manufacturing technology??? 14nm? or 20nm by TSMC?

Anonymous, 21 Feb 2015Actually the adreno 320 gets a lot higher GFLOPS than what ... moreActually wikipedia is slightly wrong here- The 1.7 ghz SD600 has a gpu of 76.8 gflops (not 86.4) while the one in S4 has 86.4 (not 97). But gflops is not the only measure of performance- for eg. a gtx 770 kepler & gtx 970 maxwell don't have a huge difference in gflops. But the performance difference is huge- way way more than the gflops numbers suggest, and since the adreno 4xx series have newer, more advanced shaders I reckon it will equal the adreno in the 2 yr old SD600 (atleast the one in Htc M7).

Qualcomm finally moved the goalpost ahead on the low end gpu after keeping it static and that too at a bad level for a long long time (for eg. adreno 305/306 has roughly the same performance as the power vr sgx543(mp1) @ 300mhz from 2011 ! )

The one in the snapdragon 600(not s4 pro) gets 86.4 GFLOPS, and the one in the slightly over clocked s600 ie. The one that can run at 1.9ghz, in the galaxy s4 gets 97.2gflops. Adreno 405 is for low midrange, its not that powerful, don't compare it to a GPU from 3 years ago.

You guys are incorrect, The Adreno 405 IS a big step from the 305/6. Compare the raw performance of both: 450mhz and 24.6 Gflops(305/6) to 550mhz and 59.6 Gflops(405). The new Adreno 405 is about the same performance as the Adreno 320, which is a very good thing for midrange and budget smartphones.

Actually, the Cortex A72 core are 3.5 faster then a Cortex A57 core. Not sure where you got the 2x number from though. This S620 will crush a S810 CPU wise.

                            AnonD-328637, 18 Feb 2015So 620 is equal to 810 in CPU performance.holy f**king sh*t... moreThe 620 is using 4x A72's vs the 4x A57's in the 810(ignoring the A53's in both SoC's), so it's actually significantly more powerful.

This means that the next 800 series flagship SoC(825?) is going to be a large leap above that so it's going to be impressive.

I was serious about the 620's CPU cores being on par with 810.
