Anonymous, 19 Feb 2015Rip Ericsson, nokia, blackberry, motorola, ...sony, soon what... moreMotorola been sold, not taken out of business. If Google could buy Motorola without killing the brand then surely Lenovo can too.

Blackberry isnt dead either, they still have cash reserves. Im currently using BB and i believe one of their problems is the balancing between consumer and enterprise functionality, BB10 has the disadvantages of both but not many of the advantages.

Microsoft isnt a dying brand as well, and the Chinese brands are improving fast, its good to see they are now providing less bloated UX, only Huawei is totally lost down the "useless features" path that even Samsung has started to distance themselves from.

All in all the its looking promising.

I think it would be good decision if they exit smartphone business...at least they will have very less losses if they exit...!

    1) Sony always had wrong strategy...releasing new flagship every 6 months is just wrong...because if people buy their new flagship phone , it becomes old after 6 months...that's why people don't buy it and they are running into loss...!
    2) They don't have regular updates schedule especially for the low & mid range phones , they just directly ditched Xperia C,M,L & XP & many others...not even providing KitKat...so customers lose faith in them and don't buy their phones again...!
    3) There are still no official update for Lollipop for any Sony phones...while others like Samsung had HTC has already updated many of their phones to lollipop...!

I love Sony designs , especially of Z series...but i just hate their UI...its just boring , it never really changed much from Gingerbread era till now...!

I am not a fanboy of others...I love Sony , i have Sony TV , Music system , earphones...just hate their phones...!

Despite what some may say, Sony has made great devices. Sony's achilles heel has been marketing & strategy. Which has been an issue with the overall company period. But that in no way reflects in the quality of their products.

Just like Nokia, Sony may have not been a fan favorite over the last few years. But it has undoubtedly brought balance & selectivity to an over saturated Apple & Samsung market. Hopefully they can reestablish the smartphone sector & find creative ways to continue.

sony lacks the true black screen, removable battery, would not consider sony sorrry.

This is good, Sony should stop already. I been an Xperia fan and had many Xperia since the Sony Ericsson days, but with the phones Sony been churning out lately its a shame, the Z3 Compact is easily winning the title "underachiever of the year" and the Z3 has the worst display since the Galaxy S back in 2010, in fact its even worse, those colors, that ice cold white temperature... Easily the most painful experience one can have so the Xperia name isnt unsuitable for Z3, just that its not a good one.

Sony had two options, start making phones people want, or stop making phones, long time obvious they were chosing the latter. Talk about being out of tune with the market, duh... OTOH, HTC seems to finally be able to make phones people want again, the coming M9 seem to have gotten rid of the bad influence of Peter Chou, the dealbreakers from M7 and M8 seem to have been adressed. If HTC can then why not Sony? I think Sony has the same problem, they have a Peter Chou with too much influence over new products who is pushing eccentric features that only he like (ref the super cold white temp of Z3, even Peter Chou isnt able to do such an outrageous eccentric thing, even though HTC Sense has its own way to ruin color reproduction)

Sony Mobile isnt a victim of market powers, its a harakiri, they 100% brought this onto themselves.

Shame 'cause Sony handsets were quality ones. Why did they have to produce 2 flagships with so little difference, while every other manufacturer made 1.

As long as they dont shut down their TV division im ok with this.

That's great.Sony should stop making any new device starting today. They make worthless piece of crap and charge a premium for it.Self cracking screen, over heating. My dad was using Z1 and the screen cracked itself without ny physical abuse. And the service center peeps refused to replace it nd charged almost 70% of the devices' price for its repair.Few days back i tried the Z3 on a smartphone cafe and its was heating like crazy although there was no apps running. And how can I forget giving crappy updates to some midrangers and making them laggy and useless.Plz sony smartphones and laptops are not your thing.Go do something more productive

their business strategy is completely wrong. their is a huge gap between customer's expectations and their devices. i can easily turn them profitable if they heed me

Sony needs to make one high-end phone only... a Halo phone that people either mortgage to get it or the rich have to have it because they're... rich. A phone with radios that are truly world-wide... one part number... one phone... one plant. They would rule the world...

It seems that sony had serious problem
And sony mobile seems to be saccrificed

High end z series but never be big bang success, and even can't follow galaxy series popularity

In the mid range they are being defeated by those china phones cause of the price they give and not that high end specs. Look at ASUS low price but high end specs so people buy those stuff more. Im not telling asus is a china phone

Sucks! Less competition is always bad.
my hopes of Z3X or Z Ultra 2 are crushed now 😢

I've been saying this for a long time now. Although, I anticipated Sony closing the doors to its mobile division by 2017.

First of all, there won't be any buyers in this market, so either they continue or just shutdown. But i think they should continue in a low key, and sensible manner.
