$275 is not called mid range. nd that too for old 400 chipset. make a 5" 720p hd screen. carl zeis 8 or 10mp cam and decent 2mp for selfie. latest windows 10 os with 64 bit 410chip for around $150-175. huh now a days even lenovo is giving 64bit 410chip along with same specs as above for less than $120 in India. microsoft is crazy they launching several phones in a year that lacks or missing some feat. in every phone. in this way even if people interest in buying windows phone, they will go for android looking ur hardware specifications.

Specification looks like a lower version of 830 only 8.7 mp pureviewcame insted of 10mp.. metal frame and design differ...

the specs is quite niche.
Snap400 and 1gb ram is very snappy and smooth for a Microsoft Lumia.
8mp rear camera is good too.
1mp front selfie seems too low to be market as a Mass market phone now.
I wonder this phone is aimed at which category.
Businessman? then it should come with a business suite casing.

I think there are two points to be noted here.
1.Prices in brazil are much higher than the rest of the world.
2.Microsoft is taking the Apple approach to the mobile space by selling u a superior experience rather than the android approach with focus on hardware. This is because just like apple they have both hardware and software business. With google controlling the software aspect, the oems have to compete it out on the hardware aspect.The end result being oems making huge losses in the race to the bottom(sony), minimally optimised devices, short support cycle or no upgradability in software at all.Guaranteed upgrade of all windows 8 devices including the likes of lumia 520 proves microsofts commitment to the user and the confidence in its hardware which obviously has the amazing engineering input of the erstwhile nokia handset division. Afterall it is still apple which is making the big money.We can say people are fools to be paying for overpriced devices but when so many are ready to buy it u got to agree we are fooling ourselves. There is something about apple which I think microsoft has figured out. So when microsoft charges more for the same hardware as an android phone u are paying the premium for the experience with the hardware just an enabler. No lags and continued support. A company which is following apple's approach for devices is definitely on the right track. Sure there is an app gap however small that is presently. But u are paying a fraction of the price of an iphone yet getting apple's core philosophies of a smart device experience. Once the app gap is taken care of then we get the best experience. Also as an end user ur worry should be what u can do with the smartphone,its capability the experience aspect that is rather than worry about what hardware ur phone runs on. Microsoft is doing well in trying to make us "use the smart device" which was the reason of creation of smart devices in the first place rather than saying ur phone is made up of such and such stuff unless its gold or diamond.Enjoy the device, not the brand name of the internal parts suppliers and their marketing of specifications.
So in conclusion lumia 640 is an excellent device on paper. I am sure the reality will match up too.
