Screenshots allegedly show Sony Xperia Z4 Dual SIM UI

23 February, 2015
A lot of Material design sprinkled with some Sony on top. The software is based on Android 5.0.2.

I'm pretty sure this is fake. It looks like a lollipop theme from Xperia themes.

AnonD-275729, 23 Feb 2015This is the same with Samsung S5 owners whom want to stick ... moreI mostly agree with you again. Kitkat works very well. And I also think it's a little better for devices with lesser memory. Lollipop is less demanding too, but art requires aditional storage space. Which is fine on most fine.
I'm not entirely sure about the whole picture though. Phones with smaller memory format would also install less apps requiring less of a footprint for art to install.

But there is more than just 64bit handling to lollipop. Newer camera api's and the difference in stock audio is like the difference of installing viper or something.
And there has been many advancements in the security and performance. Many aspects indeed.

However kitkat runs great. Very great. And as you have said Touchwiz has mostly always been ahead of the curve in this department. Even some of Lollipop's security comes from Samsung Knox. Or so I have read, but I have not fully looked that point up.
But when you mention "Touchwiz" features everyone just says bloat and lag. Or eye scroll/heart rate sensor.
No. We also mean like having full SD function and app data moving on Kikat. The ability to move/copy/edit files straight from the stock gallery. Multi window. Group Play. Enhanced security and customizing.

And both Sony and Samsung might not even need the new camera api. That or maybe they can work with it and change it to fit the advancements they already have. Except RAW. THey should enable that.

I realize you are more basing on people who think they immediately think they have to have the absolute latest version of the OS period.
I do agree on both ends. All devices released now though should at the very least have Kitkat. Most should have Lollipop. And most should be working towards 5.2.
Kitkat was made light and efficient specifically so that all devices low and high end could benefit. And Lollipop further enhances that.

Though I also believe it's something Sony has started to improve on a bit. Just like their phone line in general. They were always pretty behind in some areas....But the Z line, especially after the Z2, brought new life and has put them as main top competitor for objective best.

Roadmap leaked 2 months ago and it's still intact. 5.1 has been released and seeded few weeks ago, yet without SDK. Nexus devices won't receive 5.1. They will skip it for 5.2.

I bought the z3 compact thinking that, as a flagship, I'd be getting quick updates. Apart from the fact the android 5.0 might be the worst ever when it comes to adaption, is there any manufacturer out there with quicker updates? Suggestions welcome.

Mihai, 23 Feb 2015As always,Sony will come with the next update,Lollipop,afte... moreYou don't buy a smartphone because it has certain OS-revision (or not).

You buy it as the sum of its parts both hardware and software. If KitKat works fine and your device does everything you want fine then why this rush to always update, update and update.

Jelly Bean and KitKat currently are the most compatible (with regards to apps and games) Android revisions anyway. So why bother?

If your new device has more than 4GB and a 64-bit cpu then I'd want an Android that uses this to the fullest. But all the current models don't really benefit from Lolipop at all.

In the case of your current phone. Are you so unhappy with it? I have an S5 and really enjoy it. And it's so powerful that I'll probably keep using far into 2016 (even with kitkat).

Anonymous, 23 Feb 2015Because we already have features on sonys with Android 4.4.... moreThis is the same with Samsung S5 owners whom want to stick with Kitkat (like me).

A lot of the stuff that's been bragged about in Lolipop has been implemented over a year on in TouchWiz on kitkat. So regarding the actual (end-user-)features there's no reason to even thinking of updating to Lolipop on a lot of devices. And the battery-life improvements are disputable. I'm convinced that the actuall improvements made on e.g. the governor/cpu-handling are nullified by that all-white infused theme that definitely wreaks havoc on Amoled equipped devices. Not to mention these flat single-colour icons look FUgly. If I wanted single colour icons I'd kept using a 1984 monochrome-Mac or a PC with Digital research GEM.

But I get it. The current bunch of moro... I mean "developpers" are young teenagers whom haven't been around in IT long enough to know this. They think single coloured blobs with flat monochrome symbols are cool.

Luckily there seems to be a handful of Android users with plain common sense. And realize that having a 64-bit OS on a 2GB memory equipped device with a 32-bit cpu is a bit daft. People whom don't bitch at each other whenever something new gets mentioned on gsmarena.
