Rip, 23 Sep 2009I was not talking about sheer pixel count! I was referring ... morewhat other notable things about the omnia2/HD can you think of that separate them from their competitors? How many are serious about recording movies in 720p and playing it back on their tv? How many actually uses their camera for anything other than just point-n-shoot fun? And if you're going to argue that it has AMOLED screen, it's still no match for the iphone once under direct sunlight (not that i care about the iphone, i'm just making a point). It's not really much of an argument when you're spouting out HD this and HD that when in reality, you can't really tell a difference unless you're hooked up to a TV...and im sure everyone does that with their omnia 2, right?
So let's cut to the chase, design factor? TG01 beat them to it with 9.9mm.
Speed? TG01 got that too (and soon htc Leo, acer F1, and SE X3).
Screen? iphone still reign in that department.
UI? TouchWiz is a joke and is much slower than htc's tf3d and nokia's.
Unless im missing something that's so remarkable that doesn't require me to buy a $1000 TV to demonstrate my phone's worth, I'd really like to know. Don't get me wrong, I love samsung. My previous two phones are the samsung X820 (super slim 5.9mm) and its big brother the samsung U600 (at 10.9mm), and I am very tempted to buy the Omnia2...but im not going to be a blind fanboy and ignore the facts that although omnia2 is great, it's not earth-shattering like people think it is.

Anonymous, 22 Sep 2009i could care less if it had a 20mp camera and optical zoom.... moredslr in a phone? someone gone nuts. :) phones cameras will eventually get to the point where they should be able to replace many poit and shoot cameras. some of the current p&s cameras have 3x zoom and not thicker than phones. good phone camera makes. instead of carrying phone and camera, it is much more convenient to carry one decent device.

The low power this chip uses is one of the advantages and just so happens due to the 45 nanometre size up goes the speed as well..You see all this hd recording is nothing new its the fact that until now its not available in small devices due to size and power usage,,now its possible..I remember toshiba having 1.8 inch hard drives but no use for them,till the i-pod arrives and found a use..Often tho this does not happen and mostly things are needed but no such hardware exists yet..They said there would not be video on mobiles, ever ,it just is not possible,,now its commonplace and now we not only have more its just the batterys wont support it so by using these newer proccessors its possible ..

Take the Omnia 2 and HD for a ride and you'll see what I'm talking about! These devices are far ahead than their closest competitors by a large margin!

By the time Samsung releases a 1ghz hummingbird, other companies will already be at 2ghz with advanced onboard GPU and audio codecs. It's nice to know that you've come up with something, but it's another thing to make it come to fruition as to not be lagged behind your competitors.

In my opinion streaming 1080p full HD is ussless..at least for me..why would i need that?it's a small dysplay and that quality does not make a diffrence.of course if you want to transmit it to a tv or something but still maybe you buy a damn dvd and you have not to worry about anything.the rest i think 1 ghz processor makes a nice diffrence and exands mobile phone to the next step wich i call it "mini computers".

you should not doubt about samsung.. they are infact ahead of all majors right now. snapdragon is also over-hyped. samsung cortex processor can beat it easily. and the kind of investment samsung has, their future processor will kill tegra surely..

The Nvidia tegra is no match for this and certainly this new Samsung will be integrated in the next iPhone as confirmed by Apple. if Apple releases its next gen iPhone with 5mp camera, either LED or Xenon flash and HD video recording, i would definitely buy a one but unfortunately knowing Apple marketing strategy, i doubt that will take place next year. hope fully it does otherwise i will go for the next Samsung HD phone. meanwhile i will stick with my cheap Chinese Nokia Ripoff until they come up with something worth the price and worth the time

This kind of R&D investment and effort should go some way towards reinforcing Samsung's number 2 position on the world market for 2010 and securing growth for the company. Digital convergence continues and these kind of technological advances will be sought after by many. A popular request often stated on this site rightly is that advances in battery life must keep pace with all this in order to power these devices.
