Though in the Z3 whether it was sensor/lens tweaks, software tweaks, or both they have gotten it a little better.
There are cases where auto mode produces great shots. However, for many what you want to do is use burst shots or manual controls to get better shots.
Oddly enough their image compression was not quite as bad back with Symbian.

HTC has never matched or beat Samsung in camera offerings. The One was better in most low light cases because of the ultra pixels. Now with S6 having OIS and F1.9 and from what they have shown...well.
And yes Toshiba makes great sensors and the PureViews are awesome. However, if you look at the 1520 and 930 compared to offerings like the Note 3 and 4 respectfully it's not painting a win for HTC. Especially with the improvements Samsung made and HTC not being as advanced as Samsung or Nokia in image processing.
Don't get me wrong I have high hopes for it and nothing is full proof. HTC could surprise us all...But logically and from what they both have shown already, Samsung has the win

Very promising and mosterous on a phone though.
And it's running lightly modified kiktkat with S801...or was it S800? and 2GB ram.

Sony made more profits in cameras CMOS than their smartphones. Samsung's uses Sony's camera sensor, Apple's uses Sony's, HTC's uses Sony's, Motorola's uses Sony's, Nokia's uses Sony's. Sony is owesome

Right now,panasonic cm-1 lumix cameraphone,is the best android cameraphone and probably the best in today's current smartphone.It has larger camera sensor and a leica lens too.and it is the worthy rival of nokia 808 pureview,not a galaxy series,not htc m series,not a xperia seriesnd not even an iphone.

I think Samsung not enough believe own sensor for Zero project. Samsung galaxy S5 has problem camera fail after launch.... Samsung should learning camera technology experience from Samsung more..

The Sony is good, better than the S5 (which I returned), but the iPhone 6+ takes much better shots, especially in lower light. The iPhone 6+ is the best I've seen so far, although I am curious what the S6 will be like.
Yep, I have both (the iPhone replaced a Z2).

The Sony Xperia Z1 camera beats any cell phone camera to date. I have tested the camera on all high end cell phones. The Xperia Z1 beats even the Z2 and the Z3 cameras.

... moreI just want to make Fotos and the camera of my z3 is not that brilliant. The xiaomi of my girl makes the better photos and has the newer Sony sensor. The same with the note 4 and the galaxy s6, why do Samsung and even the Chinese xiaomi use better Sony sensors than Sony itself...
Anyways, the 240 is a great sensor and the s6 will make brilliant pictures with it

While yes, Sony is the largest imaging sensor manufacturer on the market, Toshiba isn't small either. I'd say the quality difference will be negligible, if any, for either manufacturer. the difference can usually be clearly seen when testing DSLRs, but for such small sensors, I don't believe you'll be able to tell the difference between clean ISO 150 and clean ISO 160, which is about the maximum capability for all these small sensors from any manufacturer on the market. Be it Sony, Toshiba, Samsung, Aptina or others, all small sensors produce bad quality images in anything but perfect light.
