The article is a bit sloppy.
MediaTek is Taiwanese, not Chinese, I thought everyone knew that.
MStar (who designed TV chips) was merged with MediaTek last year. So MediaTek already supplied Samsung in that way. But not for smartphones of course.
Finally, there is NO WAY that the same SoC as used in a TV is used in a smartphone. SoCs contain many application specific components (e.g. cellular modem for a smartphone chip, DTV decoders for a TV chip), and power consumption is very different. It's nonsense.
Helio X10 appears to be the new name for MediaTek's previously announced performance-segment MT6795 chip for smartphones. It probably uses eight Cortex-A53 cores like MT6752, but faster and has a dual-channel memory interface which improves performance a lot and allows higher resolutions. The use of Cortex-A53 cores would mean the chip is likely to be cheaper than other high-end SoCs.

AnonD-352420, 05 Mar 2015The meditek chips lacks a good GPU, the adreno 430 in the s... moreYou are right, but you forget about one very important thing: It doesn't matter as long as the latest games are all running buttery smooth, which they do even on Mediatek's entry-level 64-bit SoCs. As those chips are far cheaper, making devices cheaper as well, it doesn't hurt if the SoC becomes outdated after roughly 16 months or so. You just buy a new phone with the newest SoC then. Most people actually do this anyway. A very few percentage of smartphone users is actually using a single device for more than 2 years.

But you seem to forget that you compare 2 high end SoC with a mid-range one.
The point I wanted to make is that if the mid-range SoC of Mediatek uses Mali-T760 even in 2 cores, then I see no reason why they wouldn't put something better in their high-end SoC

Android is probably the worst platform for portable 3d gaming (better platforms: ios and portable consoles). Mediatek understood that and instead of releasing big and inefficient gpus they instead prefer to give their socs superior cpu performance (the only thing that matters to 90% of the people).
Result, cheap, powerful socs that shame the equivalent Qualcomm or even apple chips.

Latest chips of MediaTek like the mid-range MT6752 wears the GPU Mali-T760...
About the high-end MT6795 that is not yet in market, MediaTek don't say what it will be on their site... so the rumours about PowerVR are still rumours, so we have to wait and see.
BTW MediaTek wins the "war" with Qualcomm in both entry level and mid-range SoC's in all aspects including GPU (MT6732/MT6752 vs SD 410/SD 615) so I really want to see what they plan for the high end SoC MT6795

The meditek chips lacks a good GPU, the adreno 430 in the sd810 is still the best on the market even in 20nm. The Mali 760 is close but the powervr GPUs in the meditek chips are far behind
