"Sony has been clear about the Lollipop update for the Xperia Z series since October last year and affirmed that at the MWC 2015 in Barcelona, Spain."

Should not Sony, and Samsung..., be forced to give security...-updates for at least 10 years from the release of each phone? It is a security risk to not have an up to date phone-OS! Imagine if Microsoft did not need to update their Windows on every computer!

it is that mindset that leads to all the abuse that companies, politicians, etc perform over people...
It is Wrong! If others do it it is Wrong Too.
Because that is a disrespect to people who invested their money, it a break in trust, specially when companies are meant to upgrade their Androids for at least 18 months!
Is it difficult to understand that you loose as a consumer with these attitudes? You might not have a sony mobile, but you have other devices, such as tvs, etc, which could be upgraded to current software and are not, because of greed, because it is made believe that that is the way things have to be, but it isn't. Also you loose because natural resources, to which you should have you free share for simply existing in this planet, are being used and controlled by those in power without you having any saying or benefit from it.
Your mind set is of a slave... Wake up!

HTC only gives this update for specifik phone, Samsung for specifik phones also.
Sony makes some of the best andriod Phones og they can select the specifik phones just like all the other companies.
If you look at the number of phones and tables which get this update - Sony gives this to a big % of their newer products.

This kind of action, why Sony phone sales under the radar. I mean for example M2 Aqua was released in 2014.September, Lollipop in November (only 2 month later). So, we can say a 300 USD Sony device will NOT get a single OS update. This is a shame. This is one of the reasons, why people do not buy Sony phones.

Sony just wants to say to their potential customers if they are into smartphones buy Z line, otherwise buy regulas phones with smartpone features enabled

I cannot see have this can come as a shock.
Sony said from the beginning that only the Z-series would get the update.
There are a lot of other Andriod phones which are stuck with Jelly Bean - in stead of Kitkat. I see that as a bigger problem.

In all fairness, it's not like people didn't get any warning from the massive list of former costumers that got screwed by Sony over the years.
Blame yourself for not listening and take the moment to learn a valuable lesson here. I know I did.

Sony you are crap providing updates... you should have respect for those than invest in you, the public that buys you phones!!!
There must be a commitment of 18 months of updates at least!!!!
You are shooting your own phone with those actions! Motorola understands that consumers satisfaction and respect comes first, and see how they are blooming and you are sinking...
After a Sony Xperia Ray for which you barely provided updates and therefore didn't buy any other phones from you, was considering getting the Z4 compact as I got a PS4, for the integration... but with this attitude I'm already put off by it.
