Image quality is not all about sharpness. Comparing this phone to pixon12, i personally think that pixon12 has a much better camera due to its better noise reduction algorithm. The w880's noise reduction is so strong that u can see a lot of noise reduction artefacts all over the image, and that there is hardly fine detail at all. So, i disagree that this phone's camera is an upgrade to pixon12's.
This phone is not the actual product, so we can expect improvements to it.
And please do not only compare old 8mp phones (esp the INNVO8). After all, every manufacturer's phone camera is improving, and using old comparisons will be inappropriate.
I'm not a fan of any company for ur info.

I'm waiting for the 12mp/3x optical zoom/xenon, led/Full HD/1 Ghz/16gb monster with symbian from Samsung and I'm sure to see that coming in 2010. cheers!!!

LOL @ Nokia and SE fans babble about some noise in the Pictures, it's still need to be tweeked and the one who said Samsung is not good at optics, may i remind you Samsung is the 2nd world largest Camera maker so please get your facts straight before you open your mouth without knowing what you're talking about. small sensor + higher megapixel makes the picture noise is a myth. just because your Nokia and SE failed so hard it doesn't mean you need to hate or come up with hate against Samsung

I decided against upgrading my Innov8 for the Omnia HD as the pic quality is so similar, may as well wait for a true king of mobile phones to be released, I know in a few months time I would regret not waiting=)

If they didn't alter anything on Pixon12 and added the optical zoom, then I must say Samsung actually brought more to the table. With added pixels the noise level didn't increase, as in case of pixon12. So at the end of the day it's in fact an upgrade to pixon12. And by the way if Samsung is soo poor with it's own optics how come pixon12 delivering the best images as we speak? How come Innov8 outperformed the rest of the so called well known brands in 8mp samples? You should consider all these before coming to such ridiculous conclusion.

Just what ive been waiting for! Took a Omnia HD last week but sending it back as was not overly impressed, sound quality wasnt very good although the video picture was outstanding! Gonna wait for 12mp cameraphone with HD recording, hopefully 1080p =)also, the sound has to be as good as the picture and Im a happy man!!! Looking forward to reading the preview/review of this model. Would imagine the european version would be similar althought I think GSM mentioned this is a prerelease version? so would be even better with the final retail version. Samsung rocks!!!

Just out of interest - where were the photos taken? The phone is listed as being in Korea only, but is that Korean writing on the signs in the photos?

GSMARENA, please, when you post some test videos, would you please consider doing some reasonably fast panning? This is where usually all phone video are awfull and important when you go for a phone for its being the first with 720@30fps.

noisy p... morei agree with you. The pictures are rather noisy, with strong noise reduction that destroys a lot of fine details.
The pictures are not sharp, although there are traces of oversharpening, which suggests that the noise reduction has softened the image considerably.
There is slight CA in high contrast areas. And the dynamic range doesn't look impressive.
Still, you can't expect much on a phone camera. It's just for convenience's sake.

its very bad because has no any GPS wlan and 3.3 inches
but iphone 3.5 n900 3.5 hd2 4.3

noisy pics taken by this so-called camera!
GSM ARENA:
We need to know the sensor size specification.
If this phone has a small sensor, then it is not surprice that the pictures are so noisy.
Additionally, Samsung is not good at optics and by using its own optics can produce not very sharp photos as well.

BTW what happened to the 8mp 3x optical zoom smartphone? I'm sure that was cooking for some time too.
