But the thing is that Samsung, unlike its competitors, will start advertising massively soon and keeps the ads going for quite a few months, this should be enough to reach most of people able to spend their cash on products they just fancy and to create some "niche" trend.

There is no shortage, this is basically a ploy to gain interest and profit share in the first quarter of their sales, they said the same thing for the Note Edge and it was always restocked.

Just wait 3 months to usually buy these phones, the now price of 850 Euros, would soon become 500 Euros easily.

there will not be any delays unless samsung themselves announce as much..... this tactic is usually to increase sales from those die hard people who need the phone the second it is released..... it always happens with apple products and there is always the same producriin news but come sales day there is always enough initial stock to go around.....samsung wont be so daft as to announce such a device as the edge and not expect it to outsell the s6 regular. i heard about production yield rates for this phone and while it is sounding bad who knows what the actual number is until samsung confirm as such....we all know that pre orders are eclipsing the s5 and will prob also hammer s4 as well so this will have been taken into account most likely.....we will see though

The average everyday consumer likely doesn't know the galaxy S6 edge exist? And when & if they discover it does? They're not spending an extra $100-200 on contract just for an atheistic feature. It's a niche market at best.

My point is, you & your friends are the minority, you account for a very small percentage of market share. 6-7 million might seem like a small amount in a global market. But at the S6 edge's price range it's near perfect. Samsung just wants more readily available in hopes it turns out to be a hit. But it won't, trust even if you cannot get it in your direct vicinity? It'll be available closely elsewhere.

Edge was and continue to be a headline grabbing device, more for Samsung's PR to advertise curved glass. Very few are sold, and availability is too limited. Simply another piece of hype mongering.

AnonD-365011, 14 Mar 2015Indeed. Just saw Amazon advertising this phone for preorder... moreBy my logic no, or quantities will be very limited per store. I wouldn't count too much on it unless Samsung gives an official word on this edition since it's only concept art for now.

In my country, stores will enable preorders around March 26th.

m86k, 14 Mar 2015Yes, the Edge made a great impression among everyone during... moreLet's say they produce 10 millions worlwide :

                Let's imagine even quantities worlwide.

                10 millions / 20 "top" countries = 500 000 Edge units per country.

Now, we know that it will come in 4 colors :
                500000 / 4 = 125000 per color
Those 4 colors will be available in 3 memory sizes :
                125000 / 3 = 41666 devices.

That's only for an even repartition all along and for 10 millions units produced. Now 6.5 millions is much closer to half of that. And some markets will get more units than others, some will not get certain capacity etc..
But it's true that in some specific countries, they'll stay in stock due to the prices.

So 6.5 (or even 8) millions units worldwide for this year, no need to be good at maths to see that all potentials buyers will rush on them.

This is a model that will stop being produced more or less quickly due to their low yields, higher production costs and more niche market whatever marketing strategy people are thinking to.

Most people plan to upgrade their phones; they are targeting M9 or S6.

M9 is much cheaper, but too identical to M8.

S6 is pricey, but it and its variant Edge are innovative.

Why rush ? Like all Samsung model now, 2-3 months after launchingo there would be 25-33% drop in price, Anyway Samsung tactics now is more towards how to sell their phone in a highly competitive market rather than getting enough supply, S5 is good example after all the hoohaa actual sales figures is a flop, Ship unit Vs Sales unit.. That's why many China brand choose to sell their phone thru Flash Sales, ship unit will be equal to sales unit, rather than keeping their phone inside warehouse rack collecting dust.

Samsung is starting to play the Hunger Market Strategy to increase the value of its devices. A strategy that Apple has been using for so many years.
