Sony Xperia J1 is the company's first SIM-free phone in Japan

It doesn't have SIM slot (then it'... moreSIM-free, means a GSM cell phone (i.e. AT&T or T-mobile in USA, or Vodafone, Orange or O2 in Europe), but not locked to a specific carrier. If you want to travel internationally, you can buy a local SIM card, put-it in your SIM-free cell phone and make cheap local calls. Hope this helped.
