27 March, 2015
4 out of the 8 cores in the company's top end SoC are pumped up to 2.0GHz instead of the regular 1.2GHz.

That is it..." lel, this cracked me up :D, single core performance depends on the architecture of the core, not the number of cores, old sport.

You do not understand or don't want to that apple is out of race or performance with launch of snapdragon 810 and exynos 7420.
      Specially the later.
If you wanna tell that one single performance is what that matters, why is apple not having a single core processor rather than dual core??? And why triple core in iPad air 2???
Single core performance is high just because they have not divided the die in more cores... That is it... Do you expect having die with half size beat bigger one???
Big little is not a fail.. To you, apple does not use it so it looks like a fail.
And about video decoding, your iPhone cannot capture 4k video so you will be like, 1080p is best... Future is comming and you will yourself see apple getting 4k playback and recording in a year or two with your iPhone and then you would say AWESOME... And android flagship will be at 5k probably.

About the article, A53 or A53E, it spells poor performance any way. Big.little is a fail and while we wait for it to go extinct i be with Apple, the only current maker of modern high performance SoCs. No octa core A53 can match the real life performance of Apple A7 from 18 months ago and in less than half a year A9 will be introduced. Android makers think 8 kittens can pull your sled better than 2 Malamutes, this is ridiculous.

Why would I want a fast GPU on a phone? Can it help me decode h264 10-bit? h265? h265 10-bit? That's all CPU work or integrated hardware decoders.

For me, a good CPU > good GPU anyway. That way I can watch my videos, listen to music and read something even on the go. Games? I have my PC and a few consoles for that.

Seriously, people playing games on their phones is something I can barely understand. How can you play a game on such a small screen? But I guess that's the same reason why people are buying freaking tablet-sized phones nowadays.

The real problem with those Kirin (and Mediatek) chipsets is that afaik not all required sources are released, so custom ROMs are mostly impossible.

Hmmm interesting choice of CPU...let's hoping here that they would put that almighty Mali T760mp8 on their chipset and it would be surely a beast itself

I'm liking this. I can't stand the A57...That's why a SD615 device seems like a better idea for overall performance day-to-day. Gamers need to get a life, honestly...

Huawei seems to be seriously progressing in cell phones. Though they are not selling that well, they might appear as strong competitor of Samsung, LG and Apple in 2-3 years. Xiaomi is alreay at par of Huawei.

You know, I think this is a smart thing. As much as I like really fast devices, seeing how companies continuously refuse to put decent batteries in the devices, I don't mind sacrificing some performance for much longer battery.
